X-Force #2 is ready for a brief spike thanks to Rob Liefeld’s Twitter feed.

If you haven’t read the latest news on the Deadpool front, Sir Liefeld the Vocal tossed out the idea that The Rock himself, Dwayne Johnson, would be his choice for Garrison Kane. While that in itself wouldn’t stir the pot too much, Johnson added fuel to the fire when he replied that he would be interested. What does this mean to the Deadpool movie franchise? Very little. It’s basically the equivalent of one person asking, “You know who’d be good in this movie?,” and the other person responding, “That’d be cool!” In fact, it’s likely that the Liefeld-Rock Twitter exchange was as much for publicity than anything else. Still, it makes for entertaining conversation.

Speaking of Reynolds, he’s stoking the flames with his Tweets suggesting that Deadpool will be part of the MCU’s Phase Five. Take that with a grain of salt since Deadpool 2 director David Leitch previously stated that no one from Disney/Marvel Studios has been in contact with him regarding Deadpool. We all know DP will end up in the MCU considering how profitable the movies have been, but it doesn’t sound like there’s any impending announcements. Plus, Ryan Reynolds does so love to troll. There's also the fact that Marvel Studios has barely entered Phase Four, so there aren't any serious Phase Five talks going on just yet.

For those new to the party, Kane was the cybernetically-enhanced super soldier known as Weapon X in the pages of X-Force back in the early 1990s. He’s never been more than a minor character and not nearly as popular as Liefeld’s Tweet suggested, but I can see where he would be a fun addition to Deadpool’s corner of the cinematic universe.

No matter how many times I cry wolf on this one, there will be plenty of collectors who take Liefeld’s Tweets as solid predictions. That, I foresee, will cause a momentary spike in values for X-Force #2, which is already a minor key since it is Garrison Kane’s first appearance and the second appearance of Deadpool.

As far as the speculation goes, X-Force #2 is a cheap comic and has been for years. Even at a 9.8, Kane’s debut typically stays within the $50-$60 range. However, the Tweet exchange and Reynolds’ post will spark a rise in values, at least momentarily. In fact, we’re already seeing the effects. That same 9.8, which had been selling for under $60 all last month, has sold eight times since the Tweets were posted on August 3. One sold for as much as $70.

While no other grades of X-Force #2 have traded hands on eBay in the first week of August, it’s likely that they will follow suit. I don’t see the values escalating for long unless Liefeld and Johnson keep the idea alive with more Tweets. Still, if you’ve got a high grade that you’ve been looking to sell, now is a good time while Kane is on collectors’ minds. Honestly, when was the last time that happened?
