The Spacedog Entertainment imprint launched on March 16, 2011 with the first issues of popular titles Death Comes to Dillinger, Fiction Clemens, Helen Killer and M.I.T.H., all which were previously released in print. Subsequent chapters will be released title-by-title on a weekly basis beginning in April, accompanied by free previews and promotion on WOWIO’s sister site,

“The addition of Spacedog Entertainment to the WOWIO family of brands adds a substantial library of intellectual property to our continuously growing eBook distribution platform,” said WOWIO’s CEO, Brian Altounian. “As we continue to expand our library and grow the WOWIO brand, we also continue our commitment to bringing the best titles to our audience at an affordable price. We’ve priced Spacedog’s premium comics at just 99 cents each; creating a value proposition for comic fans that sets us apart from other players in the digital comic space.”

As part of its strategy to provide original digital entertainment, WOWIO will also produce exclusive new material based on the Spacedog Entertainment library for distribution across its family of sites, including eBook outlet WOWIO, social comics community DrunkDuck and pop culture video destination PopGalaxy. Original offerings will include bonus content, and the development of new formats incorporating video, prose and other blended media elements.

“The Spacedog library provides us with exciting new material to develop into digital and traditional entertainment properties,” said Linda Engelsiepen, WOWIO’s VP of Content Development. “This is the first step of many that will help us further generate audience awareness around Spacedog’s titles and build a strong platform to grow them into franchises.”

The Spacedog library is comprised of over 85 titles, including comic and graphic novel properties, film and television concepts and lifestyle-focused content. The comics span a number of audience-friendly genres, including horror, fantasy action-adventure, supernatural, Western, steampunk and sci-fi. WOWIO intends to roll-out digital releases of additional Spacedog comics in the coming months, including original graphic novels The Covenant, which was developed into a top-grossing feature film, Proximity Effect, which was a top-seller for publisher Top Cow and the object of a studio bidding war, as well as The Gift, a best-selling comic series. A number of Spacedog titles are already in development with strong strategic partners in the entertainment industry, such as Universal Music Licensing Group, Fox Television Studios and Lionsgate.
