Because one of the most famous modern Inhumans, Kamala Khan, will star in her own Disney+ series, some have speculated that the OG Inhumans may also return. Is this a good bet?

Collectors have begun to speculate which Marvel TV characters, if any, might return to the MCU. For example, based upon Kevin Feige's comments during Disney Investor Day back in December 2020, I feel confident that Charlie Cox's Daredevil will reappear in either the upcoming She-Hulk Disney+ series or in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

But critics and fans praised Netflix's Daredevil, and not every Marvel property that Disney has touched has turned into gold. In fact, some TV shows that have taken place within the MCU have totally bombed. Those misfires include Cloak & Dagger, Iron Fist, and especially The Inhumans.

Fantastic Four #45: 1st Appearance of the Inhumans

Because the Ms. Marvel in the comics is an Inhuman (she possessed dormant Inhuman genes activated by the Terrigen Mist), some have speculated that we may see Black Bolt and the other OG Inhumans appear in the Ms. Marvel show. The most important Inhumans, including Black Bolt and Crystal, first appeared in Fantastic Four #45.

As most collectors know, this Silver Age book has been on a rollercoaster for the past few years. After the Inhumans TV show bombed in 2017 (the show received only an 11% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes), the value of their first appearance in Fantastic Four #45 tanked. For example, from early 2017 through the end of 2018, the value of CGC 7.5 copies of this book plummeted by over 25%.

During the past year, however, this book has made a comeback. In most grades, this book's value has risen by approximately 25% during the past twelve months. It could be that a rising tide (i.e., a collectibles frenzy caused by the pandemic) has lifted all boats, including Fantastic Four #45. Or it could be that some believe that Marvel will reintroduce the Inhumans in Ms. Marvel since, in the comics, Kamala is an Inhuman.

Will Marvel Introduce Mutants and Inhumans at the Same Time?

I'd bet that Ms. Marvel will turn out to be a mutant and not an Inhuman. The Inhumanity storyline was essentially a reboot of the mutant storyline -- i.e., the general populace ostracizes a segment of society due to their superhuman powers. Considering that Marvel still has to introduce mutants to the MCU, I think it's highly unlikely that it will attempt to introduce the Inhumanity storyline prior to introducing mutants.

Nonetheless, even if Marvel chooses not to bring the Inhumans back anytime soon, Fantastic Four #45 is still a Silver Age blue chip issue. In other words, if you like the early Fantastic Four issues and you're willing to hold onto this book for the long term, you'll probably see a gradual increase in value. And even though its value has rebounded during the past year, it fell off such a cliff after the TV show was canceled, that you can still pick this book up at a good price. For instance, raw, low-grade, but solid-looking copies of this book sold for just over $100 recently on eBay. That's not a bad deal for a Silver Age key issue.
