I just finished watching 2018's Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors on Disney+ and felt immediate regret for not watching them sooner! As I viewed the animated film, I realized it likely served as a means to test new characters before Disney brought them to the MCU. The film starred Kamala Khan as Ms. Marvel, Doreen Green as Squirrel Girl, Rayshaun Lucas as Patriot, and America Chavez and Daisy Johnson as Quake.

Since the film's debut, Kevin Feige has already announced that Kamala will receive her own Disney+ series and that Patriot will appear for the first time in Falcon & The Winter Soldier. Quake already appeared in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

One character that appeared in Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors but hasn't yet appeared in the MCU is Doreen Green, a.k.a., Squirrel Girl. Personally, I thought she stole every scene she appeared in, including at the end when she sniffs Captain America and exclaims "[s]o that's what freedom smells like!"

Let's discuss some of her key issues.

Marvel Super-Heroes #8: First appearance of Squirrel Girl

While it seems unlikely that we'd see a live-action superhero who has a giant squirrel's tale, many said the same about Rocket Raccoon, a cyborg-like raccoon. Like Rocket Raccoon, Squirrel Girl also provides comic relief, light-heartedness, and appeals to a younger demographic (something Disney excels at). She also has a sidekick, Tippy-Toe, an actual squirrel.

It seems as though at least some speculators have caught on. Let's take a look at Marvel Super-Heroes #8, which contains the first appearance of Squirrel Girl. During the past year, there have been 35 sales of CGC 9.8 copies of Marvel Super-Heroes #8, and those books have risen over 7% in value during that same period of time. According to GoCollect, the FMV of this issue is $350.

The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #1: Doreen Receives Her First Solo Story

Thirteen years after her first appearance, Squirrel Girl received her first solo series in March 2015, entitled The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #1. In this issue, like Peter Parker before her, Doreen endures challenges that many teenagers face, such as moving into her dormitory at Empire State University while also fighting villains like Kraven the Hunter.

During the past year, there have been 22 sales of CGC 9.8 copies of USG #1, and those books have risen a whopping 24% in value during that period of time. The issue is still affordable, however; according to GoCollect, the FMV of a CGC 9.8 is $50.

U.S. Avengers #1: Squirrel Girl Joins the Avengers

Two years after the launch of her solo series, she makes it to the show when she joins the Avengers. In this issue, Sunspot, Cannonball, Squirrel Girl, Toni Ho's Iron Patriot, Robert Maverick, and Danielle Cage's Captain America (Danielle is the daughter of Luke Cage and Jessica Jones) form the U.S. Avengers.

Although the cover of the standard edition of U.S. Avengers #1 features Squirrel Girl at its center, over 50 variants of the issue exist, each featuring a different Avenger and a different U.S. state.

CGC Census data for U.S. Avengers #1 is pending and therefore there's no sales data yet for this issue on GoCollect. You can, however, purchase raw, high-grade copies of this issue (or most of the variants) on eBay for less than $10.
