We’ve all heard the rumors that Charlie Cox’s Daredevil may return to the MCU in either Spider-Man: No Way Home or in the She-Hulk Disney+ series. Critics and fans alike loved Cox’s take on Daredevil so it makes sense that he would return to the MCU after Netflix canceled his TV series. But what about the other Netflix Marvel superheroes, including Finn Jones’ Iron Fist or Pei?
As everyone knows, critics and fans lambasted the show and, in particular, Jones’ take on Iron Fist. Not surprisingly, at the very end of season two, just before Netflix canceled the show, Colleen Wing appears to assume the mantle of becoming the next Iron Fist.
In terms of comic speculation, there isn’t much to speculate on here since Colleen Wing never becomes the Iron Fist in the comics. That’s why I believe if the Iron Fist returns to the MCU, Pei, a pre-teen Asian girl, will become the next Iron Fist and not Danny Rand. Selecting Pei just makes good business sense for a company like Disney that is focused upon expanding its subscriber base and would elevate Pei’s first appearance.
We’ll discuss two Pei’s two major keys below.\
Iron Fist: The Living Weapon #1: 1st Appearance of Pei
Pei appears for the first time at the very end of Iron Fist: The Living Weapon #1. An army of ninjas attempts to attack Iron Fist at his home in New York City in an attempt to find and capture Pei before she can deliver a message to him. Iron Fist defeats the ninjas (and also destroys an Apache attack helicopter. He kills with some sort of undead cyborg ninja and enables Pei to tell Iron Fist that he must return to K’un Lun. She then keels over, revealing that the ninjas shot her in the back with four arrows.
Pei only appears in a few panels on the very last page, so her appearance is arguably only a cameo appearance. Nonetheless, the market appears to be gravitating towards this issue. Although CGC has graded very few graded copies of this book, and therefore very little sales data, a CGC 9.8 sold for $33 about three years ago. Another 9.8 sold for $87 several months ago, or a 164% increase in value. You can purchase raw, high-grade copies of this book on eBay for around $10. This may be a good issue to buy raw, submit to CGC, and hope for a 9.8.
Iron Fist: The Living Weapon #11: Pei Becomes the Iron Fist
After Danny and Pei first meet in issue #1, Danny serves as Pei’s guardian along with a baby dragon named Gork (Gork is actually the last incarnation of Shou-Lao, an entity that can grant the power of the Iron Fist). When the villain Davos kills Gork in front of Pei, Pei gains the power of the Iron Fist, an event that occurs at the very end of the issue.
Collectors have also overlooked this issue. There’s no sales data on GoCollect, and, according to the CGC Census, CGC hasn’t graded any copies of this book. Raw, NM copies of this book have sold on eBay for less than $5 (or less than a $1 more than cover price). While we can’t be sure that Pei will appear in the MCU, buying a book for around cover price presents little risk.
