Young AvengersThanks to Disney+, Young Avengers #10 & #12 and Astonishing X-Men #6 are going to get much more popular in the next year.

The rumors continue to swirl around the upcoming WandaVision, and the series is making waves in the collecting circles. As I explained in “Two More Reasons to Invest in Young Avengers #1,” Hulkling/Teddy Altman is rumored to be joining the cast. Adding him to the mix fuels speculation that will make you want to invest in YA #10 and AXM #6, namely S.W.O.R.D. and Speed.

Young AvengersSentient World Observation and Response Department

Did you catch the post-credits scene of Spider-Man: Far From Home? In that scene, we see Nick Fury, who was earlier revealed to have been impersonated by the Skrull Talos, is on a space station. Many fans are guessing that will eventually become The Peak, the headquarters of S.W.O.R.D., which is basically the space version of S.H.I.E.L.D. (Sword and shield, get it?)

S.W.O.R.D. monitors interstellar activity and threats, and it is being reported that the organization will be featured in WandaVision. As CBR theorized, they will likely be used to aid Hulkling, who is a Kree/Skrull hybrid hiding on Earth. S.W.O.R.D. first appeared in Astonishing X-Men #6, and with the MCU leaning more and more toward cosmic, it likely will be a major theme in the coming movie phases.

Young AvengersTHE TWINS

That brings me to Young Avengers #10, which happens to be the first appearance of Tommy Shepherd, aka Speed.

Tommy is the twin brother of Billy Kaplan/Wiccan, and they are the twin sons of Scarlet Witch and Vision. With the Disney+ series centering on Wanda and Vision’s relationship, it is practically a given that these two characters will be featured in the show.

I believe we will first see Wiccan in the MCU as he is the love interest of Hulkling. Once those two characters are established, I predict Speed will be incorporated into the mix, and the drama of the “long-lost brothers” soap opera will play out in grand fashion. Down the proverbial road, this will set up the Young Avengers.

Young AvengersYOUNG AVENGERS #10 & #12

Tommy first appeared in YA #10, and that issue is a steal at the moment. A graded 9.8 hasn’t sold online since last September, and it went for $50. If you want to go even cheaper, look at the 9.6, which sold for $31 last month.

After debuting as Tommy, he took the moniker of Speed and joined the Young Avengers in YA #12. That makes this the more popular of the two issues. As such, it is also the more expensive.

In 2019, three graded 9.8s averaged $69, but the scales are beginning to tip as the most recent sale was for $75 in December. This could be the start of inflating values, so now is a great time to buy.

Young Avengers - Astonishing X-MenASTONISHING X-MEN #6

The first appearance of S.W.O.R.D. is already on the rise, and it will only get worse (or better, if you are selling) once WandaVision establishes the team.

In 2018, this was a cheap comic with a 9.8 averaging just $28 over four sales. Last year, the fair market value bumped to $65, but the past 90 days has seen its FMV pushed to $80. Don’t look for it to slow down in the near future.
