Marvel Studios’ Phase Four is well underway thanks to the theatrical releases of Black Widow and the upcoming Shang-Chi, Eternals, and Spider-Man: No Way Home. Marvel Studios is also using its Disney+ shows to introduce relatively new characters like Ms Marvel and Kate Bishop to audiences.  One fairly recent character who is set to become a household name is none other than Maya Lopez/Echo… So, today we ask the fundamental question: Who is Echo, and should you be paying attention?

eco_attentionWho Is Echo?

Are you like me and have no idea who Maya Lopez/Echo is? Then this article is the right place to start. Let’s learn together! Lopez first appeared in Daredevil #9 in 1999. Lopez's backstory is rather interesting, as she was raised by the Kingpin after he murdered her father. Her father left a bloody handprint on his daughter’s face. He then begged Wilson Fisk to raise the young Lopez as his own.

Kingpin would later tell Lopez that Daredevil was responsible for her father's death. Some time after, Lopez fell for Matt Murdock. Eventually, she avenged her father by blinding Kingpin by shooting him in the face.

Lopez is one of the very few deaf, Native American characters in Marvel Comics. The upcoming MCU adaptation will keep this canon, as Alaqua Cox, who is Native American and deaf, has been cast in the leading role.

Given her ties to Kingpin and the Man Without Fear, both Vincent D’Onofrio and Charlie Cox have been rumoured to appear in both Hawkeye and the upcoming Echo spin-off series.

daredevil_echoShould You Be Paying Attention To Echo?

So, should you be paying attention to Echo? I certainly believe so. Much like Ms. Marvel and Kate Bishop, Echo’s first appearance (Daredevil #9) has sold through the roof ever since Cox was cast in the role back in December of last year.

In August of this year, a 9.8 grade of Daredevil #9 sold for a record high of $750 (USD), while a 9.6 sold for its own all-time high at $325 (USD) in June.

There are a rather large number of 9.8s out there, which means that it is not too difficult to get your hands on one of these. If you were to invest, I would try to do this before Hawkeye hits Disney+ on November 24. Trends show that 9.8 grades of this book are only going to rise even further (trend is at 31.5%). This inclines me to believe we haven’t even seen the peak of this book.

Considering the book is destined to boom with the show dropping in November, I don’t actually see a downside to going in on Echo.

What do you guys think? Do you think Echo has the potential to go gangbusters on the investment market? Or do you think the book has reached its peak already?
