After 2014’s disappointing The Amazing Spider-Man 2, I never thought I would be writing about a film that includes both Electro and the Green Goblin ever again. Well, I am. Since last year, the rumour of Jamie Foxx and Willem Dafoe reprising their roles as Electro and the Green Goblin, respectively, has felt like a pipe-dream. However, as evident by Spider-Man: No Way Home’s trailer… That pipe-dream is actually a reality. So, today, we ask the question: What’s the deal with Electro and the Green Goblin?

What’s the Deal With Electro & The Green Goblin?

No Way Home has entertained audiences for the last two years without even releasing a single frame of film. With the sheer amount of rumours, theories and crazy castings, it is rather insane that anything that popped up on Reddit turned out to be remotely true. The rumour that Jamie Foxx, of all people, would reprise his divisive role as Electro was one that I really struggled to wrap my head around.

Well, as I said in my piece on Doctor Octopus: It’s all real! Not only is Jamie Foxx back, but Willem Dafoe is also returning as Norman Osborn/The Green Goblin, despite his character’s certain death in 2002’s Spider-Man

Electro's two main keys are his first appearance in The Amazing Spider-Man #9 and his second appearance in Daredevil #2, while The Green Goblin actually has three main keys. These of course being the character’s first appearance in The Amazing Spider-Man #14 and the first appearance of Norman Osborn in The Amazing Spider-Man #37 and the reveal that Osborn was the Goblin all along in The Amazing Spider-Man #39.

What's The Deal With Electro Keys?

Electro_DealThis year, The Amazing Spider-Man #9 has been selling like rapid fire. Since Foxx’s casting back in December of last year, people have been desperate to get their hands on a copy of Electro’s first appearance, no matter the grade! Like Doctor Octopus’ first appearance, high, mid and low grades are all selling. In April, a 9.0 grade sold for its all-time high at $8,250 (USD). For comparison’s sake, even a super low grade (3.5) sold back in July for $1,250 (USD).

Much like Electro’s first appearance, his second is doing the rounds too. In July of this year, a 9.2 grade sold for an all-time high at $3,600 (USD). Electro is a big sell, and if you happen to have one of these books laying around, I wouldn’t sit on it for too long. After all, you don't want a repeat of what happened when everyone invested in Electro keys just before the release of The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

While the official teaser for No Way Home didn't outright reveal Electro, there were a few visual hints at the character's appearance. Perhaps a more official look will hit in the second trailer?

What's The Deal With Goblin Keys?

Just this month alone, The Amazing Spider-Man #14 has been selling like turkey the day before Thanksgiving! Folks are becoming aware of the fact that the Green Goblin will appear in the forthcoming film, and they are taking full advantage of it. I imagine these sales will only increase once we get our first, proper and official look at Dafoe’s character in the new movie, much like Electro and Doctor Octopus. In the final moments of the No Way Home trailer, audiences were treated to a malicious laugh and a surprise appearance of a pumpkin bomb from Sam Raimi's original Spider-Man film, all but confirming Dafoe's involvement after all.

Even before the trailer's release, no one was trusting Dafoe's comments as Norman Osborn’s first appearance has been selling like gangbusters. In fact, a 9.6 grade sold for an all-time high in May, for $7,250 (USD). Also in May, a 9.8 grade of The Amazing Spider-Man #39 sold for its all-time high at $48,000 (USD). The Goblin hype is official, folks.

Wrapping Up

In my opinion, I actually think now is not a completely horrible time to invest in Electro or the Green Goblin, and I will explain why. There has been a rumour floating around that Electro, Doctor Octopus and Green Goblin appear in this movie as a Multiversal Sinister Six. Now, apparently, this is not the MCU’s Sinister Six. That team, at least according to rumours, will consist of Scorpion, Vulture, Mysterio and a few other characters we have yet to see. Now, I think the MCU will introduce their own versions of Electro, Doctor Octopus and the Green Goblin in the next Spider-Man trilogy, culminating in a proper Spider-Man versus the Sinister Six film. At least, that is my theory.

So, with that theory or rumour, I think investing in Electro and Goblin keys may actually pay off down the line. I mean, Marvel Studios would be absolutely foolish to not introduce Norman and Harry Osborn in the ‘College’ trilogy for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, right?
