The Guardians of the Multiverse have assembled in What If…? Episode #9, and it has triggered sales for a couple of Gamora keys. SPOILER AHEAD.

The final episode of What If…?’s inaugural season is upon us, and the Guardians of the Multiverse have arrived. Many fans had wondered what was coming given that the first eight episodes were all open-ended. Today, the plan has come together as Uatu gathered the crew for a showdown with the nigh-unstoppable Ultron with all six Infinity Stones.

Several old favorites from the earlier episodes made triumphant returns. There’s Strange Supreme, Party Thor, Captain Carter, Star-Lord T’Challa, end-of-the-world Black Widow, and King Killmonger. Since we’ve already seen those six, it’s the appearance of Gamora that has shaken up the collecting world this week.

When the episode reveals Gamora, she has presumably defeated Thanos and is destroying the Infinity Gauntlet on Nidavellir. Alongside her is another Tony Stark variant, and this time he is a champion of Sakaar and wearing a Hulkbuster suit. However, he is only there for a cameo, and nothing more is explained before the Watcher recruits Gamora.

With Gamora entering the What If…? fray, here are a pair of issues that are getting a bump from the attention.

STRANGE TALES #180

From the first What If…? teaser art, Gamora fans have been anxiously awaiting her return. Even better, we finally got to see her wear Thanos’ Endgame armor, though there is no backstory to show how that happened. As we approach Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the past Gamora will reappear, but will the What If…? version crossover to the world of live-action? That is the question as the first season calls it a wrap.

In the meantime, it will be worth your time to take a closer look at Gamora’s first appearance in Strange Tales #180. Before she was a Guardian of the Galaxy, she met up with another famous cosmic face, Adam Warlock. If the rumors are true and he appears in GOTG Vol. 3, that could put even more emphasis on the pair’s first meeting.

At the moment, ST #180 has been a popular item. Over the weekend, a graded 9.2 sold for $465. Meanwhile, the raw copies were earning $100 or more in some cases.

GAMORA #1

Four years ago, Gamora was finally given the starring role in her own series. While it has gone largely unnoticed to this point, the season finale of What If…? is driving sales for this issue. On October 1, the standard edition graded at a 9.8 sold for a record-high $80. Three days later, a 9.8 of the J. Scott Campbell edition C broke a record of its own with an $86 sale.

Raw copies have picked up the pace as well. Heading into Episode 9, copies were selling anywhere from $10 to as much as $35 for the standard cover.

SEASON TWO AND HIGH EXPECTATIONS

With Season One in the books, MCU fans are still reeling from the number of reveals and the possibilities for the next season. Expectations are high going into Season Two, but it would seem that the What If…? crew is up for the task of upping the ante. Now for the hardest part: waiting.
