Last year when the trailer dropped for Morbius, it was all the rage. Everyone jumped on all the keys and couldn't stop speculating on it. But due to the Mighty Rona, many plans have been placed on pause. However, now is the time to jump on these keys again. With so many other projects in the works, many have forgotten about this movie and character.

Who is Morbius?

Morbius is the Living Vampire, not to be confused with Blade, the Day Walker. Dr. Michael Morbius was created and designed by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane. He is first introduced in Amazing Spider-Man #101 as one of Spider-Man's enemies. Prior to transforming, he was a well known and well-respected biochemist. During his tenure, he received a diagnosis of having a rare blood disease. While trying to cure himself, the biochemical experiment was botched, imbuing him with vampire-like abilities and traits. These traits include Superhuman strength, speed, heightened senses, hypnotism, and accelerated healing.

Morbius Movie News

As for the long-awaited movie, it is set to premiere on March 19, 2021, for now. Things can still change, but currently, that is the tentative date. The plot of the movie is still unknown. But if you saw the trailer, there was a little easter egg in the form of a poster of Spider-Man with the words MURDERER painted on. After seeing the last Spider-man movie, Parker is being blamed for the death of Mysterio and the drone attack. So the poster indicates that Morbius takes place after Spider-Man: Far From Home. Since Peter Parker goes to Dr. Morbius to be cured of his Spider powers, it is possible to see an end credit with Peter showing up, bringing the movies together.

Personally, I would love for them to set up the premise for the Midnight Sons. According to IMDB and other sources, Kevin Feige really likes the idea of bringing forth this supernatural team together.

Keys to Snag

So since many of us have forgotten about this movie, many of the keys have dipped into the Blue Ocean territory. That means that right now is the best time to buy. Especially since many collectors are focused elsewhere. Here are 5 keys to keep an eye on...

Amazing Spider-Man #101/#102

Issue #101 is the first appearance of Morbius with #102 being his second appearance and origin. I didn't want to cheat you of some good keys so I placed these two together to sneak in one more at the end. Currently, issue #101 has an FMV of $400 for a 5.5 with a 4.0 going for $300. Issue #102 is much more reasonable with an FMV of $270 for a 9.2. These will be the first ones to heat up especially the closer we get to the release date. Plus extra bonus fact, Issue #102 has Morbius misspelled on the cover! (Shows Moribus instead of Morbius)

Fear (Adventure Into) #24

Although not a major key, it is the first appearance of Blade outside of the Tomb of Dracula and his first meeting with Morbius. Since there is a Blade movie in the works, this would be a great book to own. With Morbius and Blade both hitting the big screen in the future, their paths are bound to cross. Currently, the FMV on this book is $200 for a 9.4 with a 9.8 holding at $375.

Creatures on the Loose #30

Here we see the first appearance of Agent Simon Stroud. Stroud is a CIA agent tasked with hunting down Man-Wolf and Morbius. Once again, not a major key, BUT it does open the mind to more speculation. The reason for this is because Tyrese Gibson is confirmed to play Stroud and has signed a 3 film contract for it. This means there will be at least 3 movies featuring Stroud as well as Morbius. The first movie is obviously the origin movie, while the second one could tie in with Spider-Man. As for the third, I am hoping to see a Blade or Midnight Sons tie in. Told you, I am really hoping for that MS movie! FMV is $100 for 8.5 and $400 for a 9.6. as of now.

Spider-Man #76

This key is the 1st appearance of Loxias Crown, who will be played by Matt Smith in the movie. He is a vampire and villain otherwise known as The Hunger. This character has tangled with Spider-man, Morbius, and even attacked some Morlocks in the sewer.  If done correctly, I can see this character crossing over through many movies, possibly even a cameo in the distant future with the X-Men. We all know how Feige loves to create a massive world and bring everyone together. Currently, the FMV for this book is a steal. A 9.8 is valued at only $110 making this an easy grab in all grades.

Morbius: The Living Vampire #1

Lastly, I had to add this one in. This is the first on-going solo title featuring Morbius. It also is part 3 of 6 of the Rise of the Midnight Sons. (Sorry I couldn't resist mentioning them again!) However, this is the lowest valued book on this list making it one of the easiest grabs ever. You could probably find tons of these in the dollar bins at your LCS. However, if you want one graded, a 9.8 will only run you about $50, see told you, cheap!

Bottom Line

While everyone is scavenging for Galactus and Darkseid keys, give yourself, and your wallet, a break. Blue Ocean books are where you want to be. Always check out what everyone is jumping on and go the opposite way. We all collect so many things that it should be easy to just refocus your efforts. Remember the market always goes up and down and like stocks you want to buy when it's down. So let me know what you think and if there are any other Morbius keys that should have made the list. If you have any questions, critiques, comments, or qualms feel free to jump on below and leave me a message.

Till Next Time, Happy Hunting!
