Goldin Auctions Comics, Video Game, & TCG Elite Auction Closes

Goldin Auctions' latest video game auction set seven brand new sales records for a variety of games, some with titles we've begun to see routinely across the auction block.

1991 SEGA Genesis (USA) "Sonic the Hedgehog" Sealed Video Game - WATA 9.4/A sold for $430,500, setting a new highest sales price record not just for Sonic, but for any SEGA game ever sold.

Other games set new personal bests, setting new records for the highest prices sold:

A 1988 NES (USA) "Super Mario Bros. 2" Round SOQ (First Production) Sealed Game - WATA 9.4/A+ sold for $136,530.00 after 16 bids.

A sealed, early production1985 NES Nintendo (USA) "Super Mario Bros." with Two Code Hangtab - WATA 9.2/A  sold for $676,500.00.

A 2012 Xbox 360 (USA) "Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition" G2W 00001 (First Production) Sealed Video Game - WATA 9.6/A++ sold for $12,300.

A 1997 N64 Nintendo 64 (USA) "GoldenEye 007" Sealed Video Game - WATA 9.4/A++ sold for $59,040.

A 1993 SNES Super Nintendo (USA) "Mortal Kombat" Made in Japan Sealed Video Game - WATA 9.8/A+ sold for $81,180.

1999 PS1 Sony Playstation (USA) "Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes" Sealed Video Game - WATA 9.8/A++ sold for $47,970.

EACH of those results represents a brand new sales record. As graded video games continue taking off, I expect we'll see more of the same.

 September 14 Video Games and Trading Card Auction #312137 at Heritage

Here are the top three highest earners from last week's weekly Video Game auction at Heritage. All results are from Sep 14, 2021.

First place went to a Super Mario Bros. - Wata 8.5 A Sealed [Oval SOQ R, Later Production], NES Nintendo 1985 USA, which sold for $31,200. While I can't find sales of that exact grade for comparison, a Wata 8.0 B+ Sealed [Oval SOQ TM, Later Release] sold for $22,200 in April of this year.

The second-highest earner spot was claimed by a Sealed Wata 9.0 A+ GoldenEye 007 for N64 Nintendo 1997 USA, which went for $12,600. This game was from one of the original production runs of the game and is much harder to find than the subsequent Player's Choice version. It's the third-best-selling Nintendo 64 video game with over 8 million copies sold.

Third place went to a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Wata 9.0 A Sealed [Oval SOQ TM], NES Ultra 1989 USA, the first appearance of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in a home console video game. This game sold for $6,600.
