Upcoming Video Game Auctions:

ComicConnect Event Auction #47

ComicConnect is offering a large selection of WATA graded video games in their upcoming event, which opens Monday, 8/8/21 at noon.

Highlights include a WATA 9.4 Super Mario Bros. 2 (NES)  SOQ; Small Warranty; 3 Screw Cart.  An 8.0 sold just over a year ago on eBay for $1,400. Super Mario Bros. games have been making plenty of headlines lately, with an unopened copy of Super Mario 64 going for a record-breaking $1.5 million last month. With this one in such a high grade, it'll be interesting to see where Mario settles this time.

The Legend of Zelda has also seen its fair share of publicity in recent weeks. In this auction, we have The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask (N64) 9.4 taking its turn on the auction block. This copy features an A++ Seal Rating and First-party V-Seam. In June of 2020, a 9.2+ copy was sold on eBay for $1,499. I'd guess this copy will go for a chunk more than that, given Link's consistent popularity.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater (PS) 8.5 with an A Seal Rating; First-party Y-Seam with Sony security label & Tear strip and Next Generation Quote sticker is also worth watching.

A mid-grade, but rare/expensive game, M.U.S.C.L.E. Tag Match is an entry collectors should take notice of.  This particular offering is graded WATA FN+: 6.5 and features an A Seal Rating; First-party H-Seam; HEAVY MOLD ON BOX; Hanbgtab; No Rev-A; Round SOQ(USA Code); 5 Screw Cart. On 9/30/20 a 5.5 CIB 5-Screw No Rev-A Hangtab sold on eBay for $388.88.

Little Nemo The Dream Master (NES) WATA NM- 9.2 is definitely worth paying attention to. This one is kind of a "sleeper" (get it? I know, bad joke,) with a lot of future potential. This Capcom game certainly brings a healthy dose of nostalgia to the auction block.  Released in Japan as "Pajama Hero Nemo" and based on the 1989 animated movie "Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland," this copy has an A Seal Rating; First-party H-Seam; Rev-A; Oval SOQ R(USA Code); and 3 Screw Cart.

Another interesting game to watch is a WATA NM+: 9.6 copy of Romance of the Three Kingdoms with an A Seal Rating; Rev-A; First-Party H-Seam; Oval SOQ TM; and 3 Screw Cart. Produced by Kou Shibusawa, this is the first game in the "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" series. This series has continued for decades, and while it's more of a niche genre, it has the possibility to sell for a chunk.

Last but not least, we have the highest-graded copy of Strider (SMS). This pristine game features an A++ Seal Rating; US UPC Sticker; and Oval Sega Sticker Seal.

Released in Japan as "Strider Hiry," Strider was the winner of the 1990 "Video Game of the Year" and "Best Graphics in a Video Game" award from Electronic Gaming Monthly. SMS (Sega Master System) games are not easy to find to begin with, it's a Capcom game, and it's a 9.8! There's TONS of potential here.

There was a Sega Genesis version of this game that was much more widely distributed/sold, but this one is much more rare. Keep an eye out!

2021 August 10 Tuesday Video Games and Trading Card Games Auction #312132 at Heritage

Online bidding is open for Heritage's Auction #312132, which will offer several graded Video Games and Trading Cards.

Featured items include:

Super Metroid - Wata 9.0 Box [For Display Only], SNES Nintendo 1994 USA. Yup, this is just a box with no game inside.  Of course, this box isn't your standard retail release version. This rare "For Display Only" box was used in retail stores to represent this title on store shelves. What makes this special is that this one escaped the wear and tear that most display boxes go through. What could an empty box go for? I certainly don't know, but I'm curious to find out.

Burgertime - Wata 8.0 CIB [Rev-A, Round SOQ], NES Data East 1987 USA. This is the highest graded CIB copy that has been featured at Heritage Auctions.

Initially released in Japan as Hamburger, the box illustration is by Frank Cirocco, known primarily for his comic illustrations.

Lastly, watch out for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Wata graded 9.2, A+ Sealed [Oval SOQ TM], NES Ultra 1989 USA. It has been almost a year since a copy of this game with a higher grade than this one has appeared at Heritage. This is the first appearance of the Turtles in a home console video game. The box illustration features Donatello, Raphael, Leonardo, and Michelangelo drawn by Michael Dooney of Mirage studios.

A sealed WATA 7.0 / B+ copy of this game sold just over a year ago on eBay for $1,211.

Video Game Auction Results:

Auction #312130 at Heritage

An interesting piece of video game history, a copy of James Bond 007 - Wata 6.5 A Sealed [Mock-Up Sample Box], 2600 Parker Brothers 1983, sold for $3,600 on 7/27/21. This is an interesting piece of video game history. Parker Brothers designed this box art as a mock-up.

This original design can be seen in various print ads which showcased upcoming Atari 2600 games. This prototype artwork features the likeness of Roger Moore. The design was ultimately changed to feature a smaller image of Bond inside the gun barrel. Since this game is for demonstration purposes only, the back of the box is plain white, lacking any design.

A Spider-Man - Wata 9.8 A++ Sealed, 2600 Parker Brothers 1982 USA realized $2,640 in the same auction. A Wata 9.4 A++ sold for $1,320 last month at Heritage and another Wata 9.8 A++ sold for $1,021 in early June.
