Current and Upcoming Auctions

ComicConnect’s Event Auction #47 is Underway

ComicConnect's currently-running auction features 200+ sealed and graded video games, offering collectors in this exploding market a chance to add some exciting pieces to their collections.

While there are several entries worth watching, here are a few pieces that are definitely worth keeping an eye on.

Hagane: The Final Conflict (SNES) -Player1Grading MINT: 95.0, first-party V-Seam.

Hagane was developed by CAProduction and published by Hudson Soft. It was released in Japan on November 18, 1994, and hit North American stores in June of 1995.

This game has seen great returns when it comes to resale value. In 2014, the Japanese version could retail for $150 while the American version hovered around $600 - $750. Since then, it's only gone up.

Hagane wasn't a huge seller like many of its contemporaries, so not many copies are floating around the collectible world. Just a loose cart can go for almost $700 and complete, in-box, copies have sold recently for $4,550 raw. This copy is currently sitting at $4,700 after 14 bids and with a whole 13 days to go.

Conker's Bad Fur Day (N64) A++ Seal Rating; First-party V-Overlap Seam.

Conker's Bad Fur Day was released in North America on March 5, 2001. Though originally designed as a family-friendly game, after testing poorly in focus groups it was transformed into a game designed for mature audiences and features graphic violence, alcohol and tobacco use, profanity, vulgar humor, and pop culture references.

It was not a commercial success, selling only about 55,000 copies within its first thirty days of availability.  As of February 2020, (and after developing a solid cult following,) Conker's Bad Fur Day is the fourth-rarest Nintendo 64 title, with copies selling on bidding sites for around $500 to $700. Its value is affected by the game's unusual genre, poor initial sales, and being released near the end of the Nintendo 64's lifespan.

Currently, Conker has a high bid of $810 after 6 bids.

BIOSHOCK for XBOX360 - WATA NM/M: 9.8 A++ Seal Rating; First-party Y-Seam with Microsoft security label; M Rating; w/Embossed Foil Slipsleeve

BioShock is a 2007 first-person shooter game set in the year 1960. It received mostly grand reviews, with people praising the evocative plotline along with the immersive play experience.
The Xbox 360 version was the third best-selling game of August 2007, with 490,900 copies sold.
New, sealed (raw) copies have sold recently for around $100. This excellently preserved copy currently has a high bid of $1,350.

Heritage's 2021 August 17 Video Games & Trading Card Auction #312133 Opens Today -

Heritage's current video game and trading card auction has plenty of games worth raising an eyebrow for. Here are a few that I found interesting, but be sure to take a look for yourself.

Super Mario Bros. 3 - WATA 9.6 A+ Sealed ["Bros." Right, Later Production], NES Nintendo 1990 USA. It wouldn't be a video game auction blog if we didn't talk about Mario at least once, right? This copy is currently generating the most interest in this auction, with a current high bid of $12,000 and plenty of time left to see that number grow.

Yes, this is a later-edition game, but everything Mario is still piping hot in the collecting market. Does anyone have a guess as to where this one will land? Let us know!

Syphon Filter 3 - WATA 9.6 A+ Sealed [Sony Security Label], PS1 Sony 2001 USA. This game was originally scheduled for release on September 25th, 2001, but fallout from the September 11 attacks forced Sony to modify the marketing campaign.

The game's original cover showed Gabe and Lian fighting inside a courtroom with a U.S. flag in the background amidst a swirl of gas. The nation's anthrax scare following the attacks resulted in the cover being changed to one that only showed Gabe and Lian's faces.

A select few copies featuring the original artwork made it to store shelves, but most of the "9/11 Edition" copies were retained by Sony employees, including this copy. So they would not be resold, these games' barcodes were punched through.

A slightly superior WATA 9.6 A++ sealed copy sold for $6,000 a month ago.

Auction Results

Heritage's 2021 August 10 Video Games & Trading Card Auction #312132 Closes:

Heritage auctioned off a slew of WATA-graded video games in their Auction #312132, which closed on Tuesday, Aug 10th. Check out the top three highest earners!

It wasn't a huge surprise to see The Turtles take the top spot at this one. A Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - WATA 9.2 A+ Sealed [Oval SOQ TM], NES Ultra 1989 sold for $9,600 after 22 bids.

While this exact grade hasn't appeared at auction in a while, a WATA 9.0 A+ sold for the same amount in April, also on Heritage Auctions.

The tied-for-second-highest moneymaker in this auction was a WATA 9.0 B+ Double Dragon - Sealed [Oval SOQ TM], NES Tradewest 1988, which sold for $7,200.

Originally an arcade game, a version for NES was released in response to its huge success among players.

A later edition in an identical grade sold for $1,140 in March of 2020.

Also bringing in $7,200 was a Final Fantasy VIII - WATA 9.8 A++ Sealed [Sony Security Label], PS1 Squaresoft from 1999. Within two days of FFVIII's North American release on September 9, 1999, it was crowned the top-selling video game in the United States, a position it held onto for more than three weeks. In the next thirteen weeks, more than 1 million copies were sold. The game grossed more than $50 million in the same amount of time and holds the honor of being the fastest-selling Final Fantasy title.

An identically graded and also sealed copy of this game sold for $4,800 on May 4th, 2021.
