I grew up in the early 1980s watching Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends; the show served as my gateway into the world of Marvel Comics. I’m bullish on the possibility that Firestar will become one of the first mutants to appear in the MCU. Kevin Feige has provided us with a few clues that suggest this may indeed be the case.

Will Liz Allan or Michelle Jones become Firestar?

First, Feige has already alluded to Firestar’s existence in the MCU. Peter’s love interest in Spider-Man: Homecoming is Liz Allan; and, as some fans know, Liz (and not Angelica Jones) becomes Firestar in the Ultimate Marvel universe. Although Liz moves to another city at the end of Homecoming, no one should be surprised if she returns in a future movie as Firestar.

Second, as our friends at CBR surmised about six months ago, Zendaya’s character, Michelle Jones, may become Firestar in Spider-Man 3 (currently scheduled or release on December 21st, 2021). She already shares Angelica’s last name and perhaps we'll learn that Angelica and Michelle are related. In addition, Zendaya is a legitimate superstar and a former Disney Channel star; Feige is not going to continue to relegate her to damsel-in-distress status. Expect her to make the transition from civilian to superhero just as Pepper Potts became Rescue in Avengers: Endgame and Jane Foster will become Thor in the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder

Firestar Keys

Comic speculators agree -- to a certain extent. On eBay, the value of Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends #1, published in 1981, has spiked in recent months. For instance, just three months ago, on September 30th, a CGC copy of this comic sold for $143.49. Just a couple of weeks ago, on December 27th, another CGC 9.6 copy sold for $225.00 -- a 57% increase in value. Clearly, some segments of the market are placing their bets on a Firestar appearance.

The spike in prices for this book, however, has not translated to other Firestar keys. For example, her first appearance in Marvel’s continuity -- where she appears on the cover with Wolverine -- is  The Uncanny X-Men #193 (UXM #193). This appearance of Firestar is arguably more important than Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends #1 since UXM #193 is canon and the latter is not. Even so, you can easily find high-grade raw copies of this book for under $10 or less on eBay.

Similarly, Firestar #1 -- the first in her own limited series -- is even more undervalued. You probably can find them in the bargain bins at your local comic store, or, if you buy them on eBay, the cost of shipping will likely cost more than the books themselves. If Firestar does appear in the MCU, Firestar 1 won’t be the first comic that investors gravitate towards, but its value will certainly rise.

Closing Thoughts

If Zendaya -- one of the most popular actresses of her generation who first gained -- becomes Firestar, UXM #193 and Firestar #1 will surely pop. And who wouldn’t want to see Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends appear on the big screen?
