DC Comics has some underrated female heroines that are not getting the respect they deserve. Meanwhile, Marvel seems to be pushing all the right buttons on many of their newer female characters. Characters such as Squirrel Girl, Miss America Chavez, and Kamala Khan are seen as worthy characters that are liked and worth investing in. Below are some female heroes that are under-appreciated, but have the ability to make serious growth in the upcoming future. Though, this can only happen if DC Comics produces the correct exposure to these characters.
Tatsu Yamashiro (Katana):
Katana’s first appearance is in The Brave and the Bold #200. It is a good book to have as it contains multiple first appearances from other characters. This issue has the first appearance of Outsiders and the first appearance of Geoforce and Halo (characters in the Young Justice TV show).
She is a samurai warrior who wields a special sword, Soultaker. Soultaker is an enchanted magical sword that can trap souls and the life force of its victims. She is a good team player, being part of superhero teams such as the Young Justice and Justice League.
Her media coverage is pretty extensive. She appeared in numerous Batman animated series, as well as video games. In addition, she also made a series appearance in the CW series Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow. She was part of the live-action featured film in the Suicide Squad in 2016.

Her first appearance is in DC Comics Presents #26. Another multiple appearance book, that includes the first appearance of Cyborg, Raven, and the New Teen Titans lineup. Her story is fascinating! She is a princess turned superhero whose adventures range from interplanetary intrigue to kid-friendly adventures on Earth.
Starfire has appeared in several cartoon television shows and films, including as a member of the Teen Titans in Cartoon Network’s animated series. She made her live adaptation debut in the DC Universe series Titans. Recently, she is cast as a member of the Red Hood and Outlaws when DC rebooted their universe with 52 new titles.
In 2013, Starfire was placed 21st on IGN’s “Top 25 Heroes of DC Comics”. She has a very sexy look that is appealing to comic book readers. She has been romantically linked to Dick Grayson several times in the DC Universe, which expanded her exposure. It is just sad that a sexy hero that kicks butt and fights evil still can not receive the credit she deserves. To me, an overlooked character who deserves a break-through.

When we think of speedsters for DC Comics, I am sure Barry Allen, Wally West, and even Jay Garrick come to mind. Are you aware of a female speedster that goes by the name of Jesse Quick? Jesse Quick is her hero name, but not too different from her real name, Jesse Chambers. She gets her super speed from the speed force. With these powers, she has the ability to heal quickly and has an increased sense of smell, taste, vision, and hearing.
Jesse makes her first appearance in Justice Society of America #1. With that, she also has many connections to superhero teams. She has been part of the Teen Titans and ties in joining the Justice Society of America. Her media coverage extends to live-action appearances in the CW series, The Flash. She participated in season two in taking down the villain Savitar along with the Flash. These interesting details along with being a female speedster is undervalued for a female hero. DC, just like Marvel is trying to push out more different types of heroes and Jesse Quick is among them.
