TwoMorrows Publishing’s MEGO book hits #1 on Amazon.com
TwoMorrows Publishing, known for celebrating the art and history of comic books, debuts a new book this month on the history of Mego action figures, which is currently ranked #1 in Amazon.com’s highly competitive “toy” section.
The book, Mego 8″ Super-Heroes: World’s Greatest Toys!, is a 256-page full-color hardcover, retailing for $49.95. Written and designed by collector Benjamin Holcomb, it’s already being hailed as the definitive resource for collectors of the highly collectible Mego Super-Hero Action Figures of the 1970s and 1980s. Brad Meltzer, New York Times-bestselling author and writer of DC Comics’ Justice League of America has raved, “I’ve waited thirty years for this magical, beautiful book.” And Chip Kidd, internationally-recognized graphic designer and author of Batman Collected, has deemed it “a stunning visual experience.”
The Mego action figures are a perennial favorite among toy collectors and comic book fans, and Holcomb spent over four years of his life obsessively detailing every aspect of the collectibles. The book features a chronological history of the Mego company, interviews with former employees and Mego vendors, fascinating discoveries never revealed elsewhere, and thorough coverage of each figure and packaging variant. Holcomb was profiled in the August 31 issue of Entertainment Weekly magazine, as the “Obsessive Fan of the Week” for his tireless work compiling the book.
The book will be in stores and shipping from TwoMorrows Publishing on November 28, making it a great holiday gift for current Mego collectors, and curious readers who may have had one of more of the popular figures in the 1970s and ’80s. TwoMorrows is offering a free 24-page PDF preview at www.twomorrows.com, as well as a 250-copy Limited Edition of the book, signed by the author, which also includes a full-color promotional Mego postcard, and a 32-page reprint of Mego’s classic 1972-1982 super-hero catalogs. The special Collector’s edition is only available at www.twomorrows.com.
