2020 has been a year for the books. It has been a year full of unrest brought to boil by generations of simmering systemic racism, record unemployment, and not to mention a global pandemic. A veritable casserole of uncertainty and anxiety on a table that we’ve all shared together in one form or another. We need a palate cleanser more than ever. That's where Trey Anastasio comes in.

A Beacon in the DarkRyan Besch

Enter Trey Anastasio, the lead guitarist and frontman of the band Phish, serving up on a silver platter an 8-week virtual residency fittingly called “The Beacon Jams.” This streams every Friday from the legendary Beacon Theater in New York City at 8pm EST exclusively on Twitch. Each week, Trey Anastasio is joined by members of his solo band, and the occasional guest, onstage for a live streaming virtual concert experience. These will be streamed weekly through November 27th. Serving up tasty jams in a joint effort to raise money for the Waterwheel Foundation’s new Divided Sky Fund that aims to help those affected by addiction in the bands home state of Vermont, as well as quell the insatiable appetite of fans left ravenous after months without the live music we hunger for.

The concerts thus far have offered full course meals each week and have offered rich audio sustenance for even the most discerning palate. With piping hot electric arrangements like the first-ever live performance of “Sigma Oasis” since its official release back in April, to a stunning slimmed-down version of the Phish staple “Stash” on the first night alone. A few notable morsels since the first show were the guest set Phish drummer Jon Fishman, as well as a beautiful duet version of “Divided Sky” with pianist Jeff Tanski.
