Comic Trends: Featuring DarkseidThe fallout from Zack Snyder’s Justice League is being felt throughout the Hottest Comics list, and it has given a major boost to more than just Steppenwolf and Darkseid key issues.

The Snyder Cut’s impact extends further than just Steppenwolf’s first appearance. Certainly, New Gods #7 was the biggest mover in this week’s index, and gaining nearly 1,000 positions is nothing to take lightly.

But collectors were aiming for more than just that comic. Not surprisingly, the early appearances of Darkseid made bold moves, and his other Fourth World counterparts were along for the ride as well.

Darkseid first cameo46. SUPERMAN’S PAL, JIMMY OLSEN #134 (+392)

Although Darkseid is only seen in a cameo and nor is he on the cover, this is still the most coveted of all the Darkseid keys. It is interesting that such a serious character first appeared in such a silly title, but such is the DC Silver Age. In the wake of the Snyder Cut, Jimmy Olsen #134 jumped by nearly 400 positions, and I do not believe it is finished climbing just yet.

Darkseid first appearance47. FOREVER PEOPLE #1 (+52)

I always find it intriguing that Forever People #1 is not the dominant key in the Darkseid collection. After all, this is his official first full appearance, which usually makes the character premiere the most valuable. In this case, Forever People #1 still ranks as the second-best Darkseid key.

56. MISTER MIRACLE #2 (+384)

Isn’t it funny that the character who had no lines of dialogue in the Snyder Cut is suddenly on fire? That’s right, the first appearance of Granny Goodness is on Darkseid’s heels in the Hottest Comics. Although there was only a glimpse of her holding a staff in the closing moments of Justice League, collectors have embraced the twisted trainer of Apokolips. In fact, her debut issue gained just eight positions fewer than Jimmy Olsen #134.

250. MISTER MIRACLE #4 (+750)

Speaking of those Mister Miracle key issues, another of Darkseid’s Furies is getting added attention from the Snyder Cut, and she was not even part of the movie. That’s right - Mister Miracle’s wife, Big Barda, made impressive gains of her own this week, ascending the list by 750 positions. Why would her first appearance in Mister Miracle #4 be so popular when she was not featured in the movie? Thanks to all the Darkseid attention, fans are becoming much more intrigued by the New Gods movie, and the speculation is that Big Barda will play an important role

WHO’S BUYING THIS STUFF?! THE ODDBALL OF THE WEEK AWARD

It was a tough call for the Oddball Award this week. On one hand, there is Legend of Zelda #1, based on the original NES title. But then I came across this one:

934. OBNOXIO THE CLOWN #1 (+65)

Anything featuring the Bronze Age X-Men is a hot seller right now, but Obnoxio?

The clown with a bad attitude happens to be a Larry Hama creation. Before Hama gained fame penning G.I. Joe comics, he was the editor of the magazine, Crazy. Obnoxio became the Crazy mascot, and he apparently followed Hama to Marvel Comics. If anything deserves this week’s Oddball Award, it would be the one and only issue of Obnoxio the Clown.
