Dream was ruling the secondary market, and the first appearances of the Sandman and his sister, Death, were trending across the Hottest Comics.

It’s been two weeks since Netflix dropped the first season of The Sandman, and the legend is growing. For 33 years, comic fans have been in on the secret that is Neil Gaiman’s horror-fantasy masterpiece. It’s made for a big two weeks for those Sandman keys as they trended on the index. Here’s more.

6. THE SANDMAN #1 (+55)

With such a truly inspired adaptation of The Sandman, the rest of the world can finally understand why we have been obsessed with Dream and the Endless all these years.

In turn, the expanding popularity has motivated buyers to seek that coveted first issue from the 1989 series, which is averaging over $850 for the past month.

22. THE SANDMAN #8 (NEW TO THE LIST)

Most Gaiman fans predicted Death would be the same breakout star on Netflix as she was in the comics. She’s not just the personification of death; she’s the embodiment of death as a friendly face rather than the usual dreaded monster coming for us all.

Contrary to Dream, Death is empathic and kind and leads the dead into the Endless as a helpful guide. It’s a beautiful euphemism for the endless sleep, and it is no surprise that Netflix viewers are falling in love with Death. It’s also made Sandman #8 one of the hottest Endless keys for the past year. Like its predecessor, Death’s first appearance has boomed, and the 9.8, with its $1,160 30-day average, carries a higher price than that of Sandman #1.

40. THE PREDATOR #1 (NEW TO THE LIST)

Considering how horribly bad most of the Predator movies (including the loathsome AVP entries, all copies of which should get the Atari E.T. treatment), no one can fault you if you had little hope for Prey. Going straight to Hulu didn’t help the marketing, either. Then magic happened, and the world has been blown away by the latest Predator installment.

As stunning as the new Feral Predator looked onscreen, there’s just no topping the original Jungle Predator or even the City Hunter, who was emblazoned on the cover of the Predator’s first comic in the 1989 Dark Horse classic. All the fanfare for Prey has boosted Predator #1 through the rankings, and it currently earns around $750 for a 9.8.

90. AMAZING FANTASY #1 (NEW TO THE LIST)

Thanks to the Spider-Verse and its multitude of big-screen possibilities, 2004’s Amazing Fantasy #1 has a new lease on life. This issue features the debut of yet another Spider-Person, Anya Corazon, aka Arana, which is Spanish for “spider.” Rumor has it that she will be cast in the Madame Web movie, and that has collectors scouring eBay for their copies.

Between August 11-14, the graded 9.8 brought a steady $200 for six straight sales, although that is a bit suspicious, honestly.

100. G.I. JOE: A REAL AMERICAN HERO #1 (NEW TO THE LIST)

All things 1980s have been in fashion for years now, and that goes double for the classic cartoons. It’s fitting that the show’s first Marvel comic from 1982, which preceded the show, has been on the move. These days, the graded 9.8 will cost you nearly $1,500, which should make you wish you’d held onto your copy.

Premiering in 1983, the cartoon series captivated kids across the country, culminating in 1987’s G.I. Joe: The Movie. While the live-action adaptations have left much to be desired, nostalgic collectors reserve a special place in their hearts for ‘80s G.I. Joe, lasers and all. If you haven’t seen it, do yourself a favor and watch Community’s G.I. Joe satire/love letter to the Real American Hero.
