Marvel’s Super Bowl ads have taken the comics community by storm, and those Moon Knight and Multiverse of Madness keys are trending in major ways.

Think of digging deeper into the Hottest Comics rankings as solving a puzzle. You look for emerging patterns and try to connect the dots. Once you do that, the buying habits for the past 30 days become more clear. Even better, it gives you a leg up on the competition to have an idea of where the market is headed.

With that in mind, let’s journey into the Hottest Comics to see what issues were trending throughout the top 100.

1. MOON KNIGHT #1 (+7)

Maybe the world is talking more about Doctor Strange than Moon Knight at the moment, but there’s plenty to be excited about in the supernatural land of MK.

Once again, the first issue of his 1980 self-titled series got the boost to the top spot, jumping ahead by seven positions.

What gave it the push to reclaim the throne?

This issue featured the first appearance of Moon Knight’s god, Khonshu, and it would appear he is playing a significant role in the Disney+ series.

23. NEW AVENGERS #7 (NEW TO THE LIST)

We could be looking at the future #1 Hottest Comic judging by the recent sales. In the wake of the Multiverse of Madness trailer, buyers lit up eBay in their search for all things Illuminati. The Super Bowl ad showcased Doctor Strange being led to a council as we hear Professor X himself, Patrick Stewart, say, “We should tell him the truth.” That has sparked many theorists to proclaim that Marvel’s Illuminati has been confirmed.

What do collectors and investors do when a new character or team is in the MCU? Head straight to the auction sites and find those key issues. In this case, the Illuminati first appeared as a team in New Avengers #7, and it is sweeping the secondary market. If any other members are confirmed for MOM, this comic will easily crack the top 10.

54. STAR WARS #2 (NEW TO THE LIST)

Now that The Book of Boba Fett has wrapped its first season, the Star Wars fandom shifts its eyes to Kenobi.

While many fans were overall disappointed with BOBF, the excitement for Obi-Wan’s Disney+ series is growing by the day.

Disney has released new posters for the show, and there is talk that Obi-Wan and Darth Vader will have an epic lightsaber battle.

It’s enough to make fans forget about BOBF and head to eBay for Kenobi’s first in-story appearance in Star Wars #2.

63. MARVEL SUPER-HEROES SECRET WARS #7 (NEW TO THE LIST)

After Sony cast Dakota Johnson in the title role for Madame Web, many fans were left with unanswered questions. Considering that the comics Madame Web, Cassandra Webb, is elderly, it raised plenty of eyebrows.

Why would Sony put a young actress in that role? One possible reason is that the studio didn’t cast Johnson as Cassandra Webb, but rather Julia Carpenter. Although she began her superhero career as the second Spider-Woman, she would also become Cassandra’s heir to the Madame Web moniker.

That theory is prompting buyers to hunt down Julia’s first appearance in Secret Wars #7.

74. STAR WARS #42 (-38)

Not all trends are positive. For weeks, the Boba Fett keys were red hot thanks to BOBF. It spotlights the risk of investing in trendy comics based on live-action movies and shows.

In the case of SW #42, the values kept climbing all the way to the series premiere. However, the lackluster reception and the season finale let the air out of those ballooning prices.

With a character as popular and famous as Boba Fett, things will eventually rebound. For now, it took a dive by almost 40 spots.
