There’s no stopping those Spider-Verse keys in this week’s edition of Trending Comics.

Across the Spider-Verse has upended the secondary market, and all the focus has been on the Spider-Man of the future, Miguel O’Hara. For fans of Spider-Man 2099, it has been a long time coming - three years, to be exact. The countdown has been on since audiences caught a glimpse of Spider-Man 2099 in the mid-credits scene of Into the Spider-Verse, and the clock just hit zero. Now those Miguel keys are hotter than ever.

2. AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #365 (+10)

This has been an ever-popular key thanks to the persistent rumors of the Spider-Verse sequel.

Sony announced there would be a second animated movie almost as soon as the first film hit theaters in 2018, and fans have been ready for more Spider-Man 2099. That has fueled the speculation for his first appearance in the ASM #365 backup tale.

After the Across the Spider-Verse trailer debuted and gave us our best look at Miguel, many collectors immediately sprinted for this issue. It is seeing big numbers this week, and that does not appear to be slowing down anytime soon.

5. SPIDER-MAN 2099 #1 (+13)

Not to be outdone, Spider-Man 2099 #1 was catapulted into the top-five Hottest Comics over the past 30 days.

Again, much of this came from the speculation before the trailer dropped. Sony had teased big things for the Spider-Verse sequel, and most fans assumed that meant Miguel O’Hara was coming.

Sony didn’t disappoint, and it has launched a collecting craze for the character’s first full comic.

36. EDGE OF SPIDER-VERSE #2 (NEW TO THE LIST)

It’s easy to get caught up in the Spider-Man 2099 hysteria. After all, we’ve only been waiting years for him to get a featured role in a project. Don’t let that distract you from another key character for Across the Spider-Verse, Spider-Gwen, aka Ghost-Spider. Besides Miles Morales, she is the only returning featured character from the original movie in the trailer, and she appears to play an integral role in the movie. That has inspired a new wave of collecting her first appearance in Edge of Spider-Verse #2.

The other thing to consider with the alternate universe Gwen Stacy is her live-action appeal. Since the door of the Multiverse is broken down in Spider-Man: No Way Home, it leads a path to Spider-Gwen entering the MCU. If that were to happen, this key would hit astronomical prices overnight. For now, it's definitely one of this month's trending comics.

67. MARVEL SPOTLIGHT #32 (+29)

There has been a longstanding rumor that Spider-Woman would make her Sony-verse debut in the Spider-Verse sequel. Dating back to the original movie, Sony had said that the follow-up would be female-centric, which prompted the assumption that Jessica Drew would be making her way into the animated Spider-Verse. The Across the Spider-Verse trailer didn’t give any nods or allusions to Spider-Woman, but that has not perturbed collectors. Over the last 30 days, her first appearance in Marvel Spotlight #32 has bounded through the rankings and could soon crack the top 50.

THE SPIDER-VERSE RULES

If you aren’t tired of hearing about the Spider-Verse, you probably will be in the coming weeks. Sony’s trailer has electrified audiences, and it is the talk of the comic circles. What I expect we’ll see going forward are the speculative keys for the new faces that may appear in the upcoming movie.
