Remember that the Hottest Comics are based on sales volume. Calculated from eBay sales for single issues over the past 30 days, these are the 100 best-selling comics during that span. It’s easy to have tunnel vision and focus on the top 10 alone, but a deeper dive can prove profitable. On that note, let’s look at this week’s trending comics.
1. MOON KNIGHT #1 (+16)
It’s no wonder that Moon Knight has ascended the ranks of the Hottest Comics.
The trailer for his upcoming Disney+ show has put the collecting world on notice. With that booming popularity and mainstream interest comes higher prices for his key issues.
Because of that, many buyers turned to his first solo comic series from 1980, catapulting it to the top of the rankings for the first time in, well, ever.
It is a testament to the growing fan base for everyone’s favorite mentally ill, vampire-hunting vigilante.
20. SPIDER-WOMAN #1 (+13)
Jessica Drew was back in the buyer’s spotlight this week. The first issue of her self-titled solo series moved into the top-20 Hottest Comics over the past 30 days. What is pushing this issue to new heights is the movie speculation. Although we did not see Spider-Woman in the Across the Spider-Verse trailer, there has long been speculation that she will be featured either in that film or the oft-mentioned female-led Spider-Verse spinoff.
There’s also the live-action appeal for Jessica Drew. One of the rumors making the rounds is that she will team with Black Cat, Silver Sable, and possibly Silk or Jackpot for an all-female Spider-Verse movie. Any of the Sony gossip has to be taken with a grain of salt, considering the studio’s track record of miscues. Still, it leaves us to believe Spider-Woman has a big screen in her future.
59. VENOM: LETHAL PROTECTOR #4 (+30)
Ever since 2018’s Venom introduced multiple symbiotes to mainstream audiences, the 1990s’ Lethal Protector series has been a buyer’s favorite. Next to the first issue with Mark Bagley’s classic Venom artwork on the cover, Lethal Protector #4 has been the issue to own.
This comic featured the debuts of other symbiotes, namely Riot, Phage, Scream, Agony, and Lasher.
Riot has his 15 minutes of fame in the Venom movie, and now the spotlight has shifted to Scream. She has yet to reach the same level as Carnage or Anti-Venom, but Scream has been getting more attention in recent years.
It wasn’t long ago that she starred in her own one-shot as part of the Absolute Carnage crossover.
69. SUPERMAN: THE MAN OF STEEL #18 (NEW TO THE LIST)
Over the past month, the Doomsday speculation has been heating up. It came from the tease for the live-action show, Superman & Lois, in which a being is shown inside a containment suit.
There is no question the suit was meant to emulate that from Man of Steel #18, which was meant to imprison Doomsday. As it turns out, it was Bizzaro in the suit, but that hasn’t deterred buyers from stocking up on those Doomsday keys, beginning with his first full appearance.
100. TRANSFORMERS #1 (NEW TO THE LIST)
One of the perennial favorites of the collecting world, Transformers #1 has returned to the Hottest Comics index.
Clocking in at #100, the first appearance of the Autobots and Decepticons remains one of the most popular comics to own. Between the Netflix Transformers serials and the next movie already on the slate, Hasbro is inundating us with more robots in disguise than we can handle.
Reportedly, the franchise is moving its comics away from IDW, and that could spark sales for the keys as another publisher could reboot the series.
