WitcherToss a coin to your Witcher, O valley of plenty. Who knew the bard’s song would be so catchy, and the series so popular? If you ended up bingeing the whole Netflix series in one night and ran through all the games already for the nth time, there are some Witcher comic books to hold you over until the distant Witcher 4 or season 2.

Witcher - KomiksKOMIKS (1993)

After the Fantastyka magazines and the Sword of Destiny book, the Witcher short stories were finally adapted into comic book form in 1993; with the first issue of the series titled "The Road with No Return" (Droga bez powrotu). The story focuses on how Geralt’s parents Visenna and Korin met each other; and their first adventure dealing with the druid Fregenal and his magical creations, the koshchey.

With its foreign origin, issues of the series are rather rare, but this hasn’t necessarily translated to higher market value; possibly due to the language barrier. For the first issue of the series, Droga Bez Powrotu; the latest eBay sale of a raw copy was for $65 in Dec 2019. It appears for the time being, that there’s only one seller for copies of the original issue.Witcher - Komiks

Fans of the Witcher series might be particularly interested in the second issue of the series, which features Geralt on the cover. See the picture on the left. In the issue, we follow Geralt and his fight against a monstrous Striga, who is actually the cursed daughter of King Foltest.

Witcher ComicsEGMONT GROUP/CD PROJEKT (2011)

After the rest of the world finally caught on to the adventures of the Witcher with the popular CD Projekt video game franchise, a new Witcher comic book containing an original story not based on the books, but rather the CD Projekt video game, was published by the Egmont Group in 2011 in conjunction with the release of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. Although purchasers of the video game were given a free digital copy of the book, actual physical copies were also released as a Gamestop exclusive.

Raw copies of the book have been selling on eBay for a wide range; from as low as $31 to a recent $100 high. There doesn’t appear to be too much urgency in grabbing the book as several raw copies are at the moment readily available at prices in-between. However, of particular note, a CGC 9.8 graded copy of the Gamestop exclusive sold very recently on Jan 1, 2020, for $350.

The Witcher #1DARK HORSE COMICS/CD PROJEKT (2014)

The most popular Witcher comic book on the market is Witcher #1 (2014) published by Dark Horse Comics. While the series is more closely associated with the video games, the stories are a mix of originals as well as adaptations from the Sapkowski books. For the last year, the market for Witcher #1 hasn’t moved very much, with respect to sales price and volume, even with the release of the Netflix series.

Currently, CGC 9.8 graded copies hold an FMV of $150. Despite the Witcher reaching wider audiences with the series and renewed interest in the video games, the market outlook for this book looks very negative. The WitcherAs a quick mention, the Stan Sakai variant of Witcher #1 also holds a similar market value as the main print, but unfortunately, its volatility and even lower volume of sales place its market outlook far lower than the main print.
