Tony Stark is everyone's idea of the coolest cat around taking our ideas of technology to the realm of fantasy and beyond. This world's version of Tony has got to be Elon Musk, check out his latest launch of Space X Rocket. The same fascination that drives us toward Musk is what titillates for the Iron Man saga and makes us love Tony Stark. It is not surprising to me that Iron Man #1 is in third place for the most popular Silver Age book which was written by Archie Goodwin and art from Gene Colan.
Everyone's favorite hero Tony Stark is played to perfection by Robert Downey Jr. He is in my mind a significant catalyst for purchasing this comic. Iron Man #1 is the first in his titled series and also a great piece to own part of his origin story. Everyone in the known universe is aware of the upcoming movie Avengers: Infinity War. Iron Man is going to play a prominent role in that story. With Josh Brolin as the villain what could go wrong? This movie is a catalyst for many comics, but mainly Iron Man #1. We see Tony Stark (Iron Man) driven by the fear of an unknown invasion in the earlier Captain America: Civil War movie. This is a vital part of the later Iron Man saga.
Should we collectively fear these comics financial returns? No, not according to my reading of the numbers. Currently, a 9.8 near mint has sold for a whopping $13,400! Yikes, that is a lot of moolah. The return on this bad boy is 194% over the last six years (GoCollect). To rich for your blood, how about $250 and you can own a (3.0) copy of Iron Man #1. Reasonable price to pay for a Marvel stalwart book, which at a grade of very good (3.0) returns roughly 15% (GoCollect). Be cool like Tony, and purchase a copy in the lower grades for posterity, and a nice return.
This comic book is a primary key of the Silver Age. The Fantastic Four #48 was written by Mr. Excelsior himself, Stan Lee with Jack Kirby at the helm as the primary artist. This crucial book and characters are at crossroads for advancing storylines in the FF saga. There are multiple first appearances in these comics. The book FF #48 stands on its own as a massively important key to the FF ongoing story.
Galactus and Silver Surfer were just huge in the comics, akin to Infinity Wars referenced above. With several flops in the theater who knows if the good ole' FF will light up your theater in the near future. The great thing about this key is it doesn't need a catalyst for this book to be popular and valuable.
The issue has the first appearance of Galactus and Silver Surfer. It is from the Silver Age of comics and has excellent returns on ROI. If you had purchased FF #48 about two years ago for $4500, it would have returned an average of 17.6%. Further, the most recent purchase was for $8250 on Dec 21, 2017, and you would have doubled your original investment. The best news about this book is, it is still available. You could pick this up for a few hundred bucks in low grade, even today fifty years later. "Flame on" to your nearest comic store or website and purchase at least one copy for a long-term hold.
If you have been living in a cave in Afghanistan, you might have missed the biggest movie of the year, Black Panther. It has scorched the earth with its hotness and continues unabated in the theater. Of course, the current number one book is Black Panther's first appearance in Fantastic Four #52. This comic was written by Stan Lee with pencils by Jack Kirby. Another critical edition in the FF arsenal to own.
This book FF #52 is the first appearance of the Black Panther and the Negative Zone. It appeared in stores in July 1966 and had been highly sought after ever since. Current return on a (9.4) is almost 27% over the last 24 month period (GoCollect). It is ranked as the top Silver Age comic currently and should continue there for quite some time.
For those of you just getting into this character from the movie, don't despair. It is still collectible in the lower grades, and the Black Panther has only appeared in two films but only one as the title character. Hollywood will milk this cash cow for at least another three movies. Get your FF #52 now while it is hot, it's price is only going to the moon from here.
