It was a dark time. A time when superheroes were filled with doubt. It was the era of drugs and the urban landscape of poverty in mainstream comics. When horror stories filled many a comic page, and sword-and-sorcery dominated the landscape. Many legendary artists retired or worse yet went into management. A new breed of artists arose that was accustomed to comic conventions, they took center stage. Finally, this epoch gave birth to the anti-hero who has dominated comic books ever since. We call this time period: The Bronze Age.

Last month the Bronze Age focused around three superhero storylines: Spider-Man, the Eternals, and the Savage She-Hulk. Are these comic books gaining momentum and increasing in price for the spectator marketplace? Also, which of these three types of superheroes dominates the top spot and more importantly which should you be buying now?

Bronze Age Savage She-HulkThe Savage She-Hulk #1

What is green, sexy, has a law degree and can turn your local gym's barbell into a pretzel? The one, the only, She-Hulk! This book is her first appearance and origin story. Though many fans consider her true first appearance to be Sensational She-Hulk #1; where she breaks the Fourth Wall, like Deadpool. Last month this overtook most other comics as the third most popular Bronze Age title. Should we still bet our greenbacks on her bulging green biceps? What does the short term return show speculators?

Short-Term (30-Days)

  • Grade 9.8 $431 last sale 12-9-19 returned negative -5.1%
  • Grade 9.6 $154 last sale 12-8-19 returned positive +14.6%
  • Grade 9.4 $138 last sale 12-8-19 returned positive +12.7%
  • Grade 9.2 $104 last sale 12-9-19 returned positive +2.3%

Bronze Age The Savage She-Hulk #1The green goliath is alive and well in speculation circles over the last month. Hence, The Savage She-Hulk #1 ranks third most popular Bronze Age title. An outlier to be sure, but check out the price paid for 9.0 grade in November. Yep, that puppy hit the $100 mark! This is merely the beginning of a huge upward trend. The numbers continue to show improvement and a positive +14.6% return for grade 9.6 is, "No yoke, man!"

Bronze Age Marvel Super Heroes Secret WarsMarvel Super-Heroes Secret Wars #8

It seems this book never loses popularity, and manages to eek its way into the top tier month after month. This month is no exception and it slides into the second most popular Bronze Age book. What are the short-term returns for Marvel Super-Heroes Secret Wars #8? After all, this is the first Spider-Man symbiote and black costume.

Short-Term (30-Days)

  • Grade 9.8 $259 last sale 12-3-19 returned negative -4.5%
  • Grade 9.6 $160 last sale 12-9-19 returned negative -11.3%
  • Grade 9.2 $99 last sale 11-27-19 returned positive +8.7%
  • Grade 9.0 $90 last sale 11-29-19 returned positive +20%
  • Grade 8.5 $52 last sale 12-6-19 returned negative -42%

This book doesn't appear to be holding its value, though it is popular. With the lowest grade not participating we need to hold off on any additional purchases until next month's returns. Currently, it does look good for the symbiote but Marvel Super-Heroes Secret Wars #8 is still popular in second place for Bronze Age.

Bronze Age The Eternals #1Eternals #1

The Eternals have dominated the top place among Bronze Age comics. Can these ancient astronauts find a foothold in our modern times? How have the short-term returns been impacted by the recent movie madness?

Short-Term (30-Days)

  • Grade 9.8 $1,009 last sale 12-9-19 returned negative -14.5%
  • Grade 9.2 $139 last sale 12-7-19 returned negative -10.7%
  • Grade 7.0 $71 last sale 11-23-19 returned negative -16.5%

Bronze AgeWow, triple-negative across three grades, not exactly stellar marks for the Eternals lately. The first rush of buyers since the movie and casting announcements are starting to fade. Look for the trailers to percolate this number slightly. Currently, however, both high grades and low grades have negative returns. Now is not the time to pile into this book. Wait patiently, buy on a dip and look for an exit point prior to the movie. You do not want to be sitting there with ancient astronaut residue all over you when the Eternals #1 finally collapses after the movie premiere.

Conclusion:

Buy the green lady as long as the price continues to rise. The popularity of She-Hulk will continue to uptick. Mark my words when the She-Hulk trailers or previews hit for the TV show everyone will want her first appearance. The Eternals are still worth buying on a dip; because once a trailer or news hits it will surge. Also, we are almost a year away from the premiere date, typically as we get closer prices rise. Buy these Bronze Age beauties now why they are still reasonable.
