Teams normally only go as far as their pitching will take them, so they normally put huge resources towards developing talented arms. Pitching in the big leagues is tough and not everyone is successful right away, but each year new names pop up and dominate. Below are some pitchers who could break through in 2023.

Daniel Espino Bowman Chrome Draft Auto

The Cleveland Indians have spent the past decade developing some of the best pitchers in baseball. In 2022, Daniel Espino was primed to become the next in a long line. Injuries, though, stopped the trajectory of the Panamanian fireballer, and now he will have to wait until the 2023 season.

Many fans could be sleeping on Espino, who some consider being the best pitching prospect in all of baseball. In the 18 AA innings, he pitched in 2022, the right-hander managed to strike out 35 batters. If he breaks into the big leagues in 2023, he has the potential to really make some noise, so invest now.

Hunter Greene 2018 Bowman Chrome

Hunter Greene was famous before he was ever drafted into the big leagues. As a high schooler in Los Angeles, the right-hander was hitting 102 mph on the radar gun. The Cincinnati Reds swooped in to take Greene with the second overall pick in the 2017 MLB Draft.

The fireballer didn't move as quickly through the minor leagues as expected, but he made his debut for the Reds in 2022. While he, at times, struggled with his control, he still managed to strike out 11.75 batters per nine innings. Odds are, things are only going to get better for the right-hander.

Hunter Brown 2022 Topps Now

Most other teams would be looking at Hunter Brown as an obvious member of their rotation. The 24-year-old dominated in AAA before getting to pitch in 7 games in the majors. The problem is that the Astros are loaded with talented starts, even after losing Justin Verlander, the pitcher Brown has modeled his game after.

It is likely that Brown will either start the year in the bullpen or maybe stay stretched out in AAA. Injuries are constant in the big leagues, though, and the righty will get a chance at some point. Once he does, he won't be giving the spot back.

Brady Singer 2021 Topps Chrome 1986 Auto

Brady Singer was supposed to be a star for the Royals. He was a high draft pick and had won the Dick Howser Award as college baseball's best player in 2018. Kansas City selected him 18th overall and as an experienced pitcher from the University of Florida, he was expected to move rapidly.

Singer made his major league debut in 2020 and was an averagish pitcher for two seasons. in 2022, though, he took a significant step forward and was one of the best pitchers in the American League in the second half of the season. If he can continue to build on that success, the value of his cards could see a big boost.

Dustin May 2019 Bowman Chrome Prospects

When Dustin May made his debut with the Dodgers in 2019, he was considered one of the best pitching prospects in baseball. And over the next year and a half, he certainly looked like he was making good on that promise. Early in the 2021 season, May needed to have Tommy John surgery and has barely pitched the last two years.

With the surgery and recovery now in the rearview mirror, May has the opportunity to spend a full season in the rotation in 2023. He still has premium stuff and awesome hair; his rookie cards will never be cheaper than they are right now.
