5. Spawn #1

Everyone knows this book and almost everyone owns it. Plus Fun fact: Todd McFarlene created the character Spawn at 16! Todd a.k.a. "The Toddfather" finished a script and plans on directing a new Spawn movie named "Tony Dynamite" starring Jamie Foxx as Spawn. The name alludes to a gangster named Tony Twist, which was the same name as an NHL player. Using the name cost McFarlene $15 Million back in 2004. Filming was pushed back from January of 2019 to some time this year, but due to the current state of things, I can see it being delayed further. Currently, you can score a 9.8 graded for under $200, but once more concrete details arise it will start to rise more.

4. Paper Girls #1

Talk about coming out of nowhere! Paper Girls is about a group of girls who get caught in between two factions of time-travelers at war with one another. So far the script has been completed and showrunner has been hired. In a given time, we would see this finally hitting the screen. I will be honest I have not read this one and haven't sparked my interest but seems like it would be a good series to at least checkout. A 9.8 currently is an easy grab for under #100. I say get a raw one for cheap and keep on the side just in case.

3. Amazing Spider-Man #30Modern books

Many collectors want this iconic cover and book. Showcasing the first full appearance of Venom, it is not a wonder why it has such a nice price tag attached. This issue is also the first issue that the Toddfather ever inked. Venom is just one of those characters that we all love. Some actors just become who they portray and Tom Hardy was absolutely Venom. With the new movie coming out in 2021 this book will only raise more. As a result of the movie, my next book on the list has also risen. Currently, the FMV for #300 is $2,350 and a newsstand sold last month for $4,500!

2. Amazing Spider-Man #361

Let there be Carnage! I for one cannot wait till this movie drops! If the Venom movie is any indication of how this movie will be, we are in for a treat! Carnage is a villain, unlike Venom who is an anti-hero. The legendary and talented Mark Bagley and David Michelinie created this ruthless killing machine back in 1992. When serial killer Cletus Kasady merged with the offspring symbiote of Venom, Carnage is born. However, Cletus was not the only one to merge with this symbiote. Others such as Ben Reilly and Norman Osborn have called Carnage home. The movie will also show Shriek, Kasady's love interest. Currently, this book is holding an FMV of $400 at a 9.8 and will start to rise more once the movie trailer drops.

Here is the top mover for this week, month, and possibly this year...

1. Ultimate Fallout #4

The first appearance of Miles Morales broke many records these past few weeks. This increase is attributed to Sony's announcement of the stand-alone game coming out as well as his second movie. I loved Into the Spider-Verse and thought it was very well made especially for being an animated movie. Part 2 sounds to be just as promising but that game simply looks incredible! Many question whether it will hold these high values due to just being a modern book. Personally, I think it will and maybe even go up a little more. Miles is this generation's Peter. However, collectors also see this as an opportunity to jump on the ground floor and score this book earlier, but it will never come close to the status of Amazing Fantasy #15. The current FMV is $1,150 for a 9.8 with sales reaching the $1350 mark.

Predator #1

This book saw a huge spike once Marvel acquired the rights to it along with Aliens and Aliens Vs. Predator. Predator is a fan favorite but unless they plan on using him in movies it will not be able to keep the momentum it has now. Marvel has been known to have the golden touch when it comes to movies, so if they do a remake plan on seeing this book jump even higher. The current FMV is $475 for a 9.8, yet seeing sales in the same grade at almost $600. Talk about a Red Ocean book! Let the news cool down then snatch some of these up for the personal collection.

Modern Books Bottom Line

The bottom line is these modern books are great and slowly making their way up. Due to constant breaking news, these will continue to grow until their prospective movie/show is released. It is tough to gauge how much more the increase will be or if they already hit their apex. In my opinion, all will continue to keep rising because of their significance and character shown, well all except Paper Girls. I cannot see that rising too much in long term standards but I could be wrong. What books do you think will hit the list in the next few weeks? I already have a few thoughts, but if you want to know drop a comment and let's discuss! And if you enjoyed this, I recently did a similar post on Golden Age books.

Till Next Time, Happy Hunting!
