Comic books and the holidays seem to go hand in hand. Superheroes, funny animals, and even teen humor comics, have all tackled the holidays -- sometimes with questionable results! Let's take a peek at three great, if not unusual, holiday comic covers for your collection, or for the collection of someone you might not be super fond of.

Judge Dredd #6 (Complete number 41)

If you're thinking of the holidays, the last thing on your mind is probably Judge Dredd. The infamous judge, jury, and executioner has likely never been in the holiday spirit. And the cover of Judge Dredd #6 certainly proves that!

Featuring the titular Dredd holding an unconscious Santa by the collar, Dredd informs the readers "Face it juve - there is no Santa Claus!" while the title of the comic has snow piling on top.

This is a colorful, and if not hysterical, cover. The issue contains Christmas-themed Dredd stories, offering a little taste of what the holidays must be like in his world. This comic can usually be found for fairly cheap -- so long as you find the right one. Judge Dredd numbering can be confusing. Expect to pay no more than $20 for a raw copy of this book.

Comic Cavalcade #13

DC Comics' Comic Cavalcade, featuring The Flash, Wonder Woman, and Green Lantern, was a fun series that pre-dates the now-infamous Justice League. This anthology would follow our heroes from issues #1-29 before switching to a funny animal format for issues #30-63.

While Comic Cavalcade certainly had holiday-themed issues throughout its life, nothing is as jarringly hilarious as issue 13. While The Flash and Wonder Woman peering through a random window may seem somewhat normal, there is something eerily unsettling about Green Lantern, whose eyes we can't see. That bird should fly away. There's no telling what horrors lie behind Green Lanterns' mask!

The highest known graded copy for this book is a CGC Universal 8.0, which sold for $1,326 in March of 2015. Mid-grade copies can be had for easily under $500, with lower-grade copies to be found for under $100.

Archie's Christmas Stocking #1 (1993)

Archie Comics and the holidays truly go hand in hand. For as long as the mirth of a nation has been around, they've been celebrating the holidays.

When Archie rebooted the popular Golden Age staple Archie's Christmas Stocking series in 1993, we saw a very daring cover featuring Betty and Veronica in skin-tight reindeer outfits, sitting on Santa Archie's lap, with kiss marks all over his face. If anything, Archie certainly knows how to have a good time regardless of the season.

The only known graded copy that has been sold has been a CGC Universal 9.8 for $252 in January of 2021 -- but you can easily find this book raw for $20 or less. Since this is a modern book most copies should be in near-mint quality, but it's always wise to check your books before you buy. This book does have the potential to be an investors piece, but for now, this is just a fun, niche item.
