Hero InitiativeMedia Release -- Three leading Los Angeles-area comic stores are throwing super-cool parties on September 14, 18 and 25 to help you sign up for the Ralphs Community Rewards program to raise money for the organization that helps comic creators in medical and financial need.

The Ralphs Rewards card is your standard grocery store "club card" that gets you discounts and perks. But you can ALSO register it with a Ralphs-approved charity, and EVERY time you shop and use the card, Ralphs will kick in a small percentage to the charity of your choice. It costs you, the consumer, NOTHING. But the Hero Initiative can benefit, and we want to sign YOU up at one of three great events:

• Sat., September 14, noon-3 p.m. Collector's Paradise, 7131 Winnetka Ave., Winnetka, CA

It's Young Comic Book Reader Day with artists Tony Fleecs (My Little Pony), Mike Kunkel (Herobear and the Kid), Chris Moreno (Toy Story) Scott Rogers (Bedbug) and Aaron Sowd (The Simpsons). Sign up your card and get an ORIGINAL sketch from one of these great artists! Plus, Spider-Man will appear for photo opportunities, and kids in costume can win prizes as well!

• Wed., September 18, 10:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m. The Comic Bug, 1807 Manhattan Beach Blvd., Manhattan Beach, CA

Artists Chuk Wojtkiewicz (Justice League America) and Michael O'Hare (Flak Riot) will be on hand to do free sketches for folks who sign up their Ralphs cards, plus everyone who signs up will ALSO get a free five-pack of Valiant Comics #1 issues! Look for surprise appearances from OTHER Valiant talent as well!

• Wed., September 25, 6:00-9:00 p.m. Golden Apple, 7018 Melrose Ave., Los Angeles, CA

Golden Apple opens up its famous monthly wine mixer event to Hero Initiative! X-Men and Deadpool artist Scott Koblish will be on hand to do sketches for people who sign up their Rewards card for Hero, and you'll ALSO get the free five-pack of Valiant comics! And did we mention free wine?

Even if you're unable to make these great events, we heartily encourage you to sign up your card for Hero! Every apple counts! Information on how to sign up can be found at:

About The Hero Initiative

The Hero Initiative is the first-ever federally chartered not-for-profit corporation dedicated strictly to helping comic book creators in need. Hero creates a financial safety net for yesterday's creators who may need emergency medical aid, financial support for essentials of life, and an avenue back into paying work. It's a chance for all of us to give back something to the people who have given us so much enjoyment.

Since its inception, The Hero Initiative has had the good fortune to grant over $500,000 to the comic book veterans who have paved the way for those in the industry today. For more information, visit www.heroinitiative.org or call 626-676-6354.
