Trending comics 2/20Godzilla and the Teen Titans made waves in the Hottest Comics while someone in the land of collecting scoured eBay for DC’s Karate Kid. Let's look at some odd and trending comics from this week.

It is that time again when we dig deeper into the rankings and see what is trending in the depths of the 1,001 Hottest Comics. As always, at least one issue stands out as being the oddest, and that award goes to 1976’s Karate Kid.

Here's a look at some odd and trending comics from the week.

Godzilla- Trending Comics 2/20100. GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS #1 (+899)

This was such a great addition to the top 100. Godzilla’s Marvel debut is always a popular choice, and the premiere of the Godzilla Versus Kong movie trailer ramped up interest in the two kaiju. Even if the movie is a dud, Godzilla fans worldwide love this comic, so it will always find a collector. This week, in particular, Godzilla: King of the Monsters #1 powered through the rankings, going from #999 to #100.

TEEN TITANS

I knew the day would come that all those Teen Titans key issues would start hauling in bigger values, but it took three years longer than I anticipated. Back when Teen Titans Go! debuted its animated movie, Cyborg was readying for his spotlight in Justice League, and another version of Vic Stone was added to the live-action Doom Patrol series. On top of all that, the rest of the team was getting the live-action treatment in Titans.

Finally, all those keys are coming to fruition.

Tales of Teen Titans- Trending Comics 2/2014. TALES OF THE TEEN TITANS #44 (+140)

The highest-ranking Teen Titans comic was not the new team’s first appearance, but instead, it was the debut of Dick Grayson in his Nightwing persona. Tales of the Teen Titans #44 also featured the origin of the team’s major villain, Deathstroke, for an added collecting bonus.

108. THE NEW TEEN TITANS #1 (+891)

George Perez and Marv Wolfman gave the Teen Titans a makeover in 1980, and this would prove to be the team that readers embraced. Beginning in this issue, The New Teen Titans #1, fan-favorites Cyborg, Star Fire, and Raven became official Titans members, forever changing the course of the title.

110. MARVEL AND DC PRESENT FEATURING THE X-MEN AND THE NEW TEEN TITANS #1 (+889)

Out of all the Marvel and DC crossovers, Marvel and DC Present Featuring the X-Men and The New Teen Titans #1 ranks alongside Superman/Spider-Man as the most famous. With the surge in both the X-Men and Teen Titans’ popularity, it makes sense that their first meeting would garner attention. I would not be shocked if Marvel and DC banked on the two team’s resurgences and did an updated crossover in the next year or two.

WHO’S BUYING THIS STUFF? THE ODDBALL OF THE WEEK

653. KARATE KID #1 (+346)

This is not the same Karate Kid that a new generation has fallen in love with. In fact, this comic predates Mister Miyagi and Cobra Kai by eight years. Instead, we get another attempt by a publisher to cash in on the martial arts craze of the 1970s. This week, the people seemed to like Karate Kid #1.

Instead of Daniel, Johnny, and Miyagi, we get a superpowered teenager dubbed “the Karate Kid” in his first solo adventure outside the Legion of Superheroes. Obviously, this issue is gaining traction thanks to the name and the pop-culture phenomena, Cobra Kai. Who knows? If Shang-Chi finds success on the big screen, maybe DC Comics will take the opportunity to resurrect the original Karate Kid.

That's that for this week's odd and trending comics! Let us know what you think in the comments!
