Issue #7, TPB in Stores Early. Meet Garth and Darick this Weekend in NYC!

May 31st, RUNNEMEDE, NJ - Dynamite Entertainment announced today that the much anticipated release of both the first Dynamite issue (#7) of Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson's controversial hit series The Boys, as well as the trade paperback collection of the first six issues, will arrive in stores on May 31st!

Additionally, Dynamite has announced that to celebrate the release of The Boys, both Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson will be making two very special New York City appearances; first at Jim Hanley's Universe (4 West 33rd Street *212-268-7088) on Friday, June 1st from 7PM to 9PM, followed by on Saturday, June 2nd at Mid-Town Comics (200 West 40th Street * 212-302-9192) from 5PM to 7PM.

Dynamite stated: "From the moment the announcement was made that The Boys was coming on board at Dynamite, the fans have been eagerly awaiting the return! Likewise, Garth and Darick couldn't wait to get their work back on the stands. We've been working hard so that issue #7 and the trade collection of issues #1 through #6 could see release on the same day, giving new readers a chance to catch up on the story that they have heard so much about and the anxious fans a double dose of the title they've been craving! Everyone here at Dynamite worked extra hard with Garth and Darick to make sure The Boys is exactly as it was meant to be. Now it looks like the wait is over (and sooner than anticipated!) and The Boys will be in the hands of the readers new and old on May 31st!"

As an additional surprise, on the new launch issue from Dynamite (#7), there will be a 1-in-4 variant cover by Robertson. Stated co-creator Garth Ennis, "We thought this would be a nice surprise for people. Really, it was too much fun not to do. Cheers."

Darick Robertson described the design work behind the new cover, "Coming up with the new cover and collaborating with Garth about it was great fun. We both thought it would be funny to see what The Boys were looking at on the original first issue cover, and Garth liked my tag line ('we Told You It Would Hurt'), which is a reflection of the original #1 as well. Since this is a turnaround for the series, we reckoned, why not illustrate it?"

Dynamite clarified that the variant is a special event for this first issue only, stating:" Though the plan is to move forward with one cover per issue, this being the launch we felt it was a perfect time to have a surprise that was not announced. This issue sets up the next storyline from Garth and Darick, and is a great jumping on point for fans who have heard of The Boys, but not picked the comic up yet! (and we knew doing this one variant would get more fans talking again :-)"

For any fans who may have perhaps been living, as they say, under a rock for the last several months, The Boys was originally published by DC/Wildstorm until being cancelled with issue #6. After much outcry and speculation, the series was announced as being picked up by Dynamite Entertainment -- the new publishers beginning with issue #7, as well as the Trade Paperback collection of the Six DC/Wildstorm Issues. And now you know, the rest of the story…
