I’ve talked extensively about the top-selling comics for the month of August, but as we all know in the comic collecting world, sales can spike and nosedive overnight. So today, let’s look at some of the big movers in the top-10 Hottest Comics for the week of August 30 to September 6.

The format here is that I’ve picked out a handful of the more aggressive changes in the top 10 for the week. You’ve got the standard “New Mutants” #98 and “Spawn” #1, etc., so I left those out because, at this point, what else can we say about those titles? Instead, I’ll be spotlighting the comics that are moving into the top 10, not the ones staying there.

2. AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #129

The Punisher almost unseated “New Mutants” #98. Although ASM 129 is a consistently popular book - it does feature the first appearance of one of Marvel’s iconic characters - odds are it’s picked up in sales this week due to the premier of the Netflix trailer for The Punisher television show. With the Jon Bernthal portrayal of Frank Castle in season two of “Daredevil” being widely considered the most comic-accurate adaptation of the ruthless vigilante yet, the solo series is generating quite the excitement for longtime fans. That hype will only fuel sales for ASM 129 as the show gets closer to its debut.

4. INCREDIBLE HULK #181

Just like the first appearance of the Punisher, Wolverine’s full debut (he cameoed in “Incredible Hulk” #180) will always be an immensely popular comic. However, it jumped nine places to crack the top five this week. These days many of the classic X-Men stories are regaining their popularity with the plethora of X-related television shows, movies, and the revamped X-Men titles on the comic store shelves. So it’s no wonder that the all-time favorite X-Man’s most famous comic would be jumping in sales.

9. SAVAGE SHE-HULK #9

I’m not a movie industry insider by any stretch of the imagination, but I’d wager that She-Hulk will eventually be brought into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As she’s taken on a bigger role in the Marvel comics’ universe, the rumors of her debuting on-screen keep swirling. Those two factors also boost sales of her first appearance in her self-title comic. Sales have been good this week as “Savage She-Hulk” #9 has moved up seven places.

10. WEREWOLF BY NIGHT #32

Personally, I’d like to see Marvel revamp the old “Werewolf by Night” series and bring on a full-fledged, modern horror comic in the Marvel Universe. Until my favorite superhero werewolf gets a rumored television show or movie deal worked out, I’ll have to settle for one of his comics getting a piece of the action.

“Werewolf by Night” #32 showcased the first appearance of Moonknight, the superhero with multiple personality. For years, there’s been rumors of Marvel Studios bringing the character into the MCU, whether in a movie or television show. Once that becomes official - or even if it becomes official - “Werewolf” #32 could make a run for the top spot in the Hottest Comics list. This week, it’s up 74 places and now is inside the top 10, so keep an eye on it.
