Doctor Strange is one of those guys that have it all. He is a top-notch surgeon, wealthy, handsome, intelligent, drives a Lamborghini, lives in a penthouse, and is so rich his watch collection looks like a high-end retail display. He also just happens to be the Sorcerer Supreme of Earth. Gee this guy Strange has it all, but what about the hot girlfriend? He doesn’t have one of those, does he? Sorry folks, this lucky bugger has the ultimate trophy girlfriend that eventually becomes his wife. Her name is Clea and she is his apprentice sorcerer.
When Clea appears on the big screen she is going to enchant the public with her beauty. She was always one of my favorites as a kid. Who wouldn’t want a beautiful mistress, that is also your apprentice and trapeses around in nightgowns for her daily outerwear? Yeah, this guy Strange has the life. Clea is a powerful sorceress in her own right, making this one true power couple. She is sexy, intelligent and in love with the good doctor. Can the “most interesting doctor in the world” conjure up some spectacular returns for Clea’s first appearance in Strange Tales #126? By the “Hoary Host of Hoggoth” I sure hope so!
Clea is the future wife of Doctor Strange and first appeared in Strange Tales #126. She was created by Stan Lee, and Steve Ditko (script) with Jack Kirby, Dick Ayers, and Steve Ditko on art in 1964. This character will make a huge impression during the next movie according to media hype. The online rumor mill is generating info about Clea. Apparently, she will be in the next movie Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. What kind of long-term returns can we expect?
- Grade 9.0 $750 last sale 12-23-18 returned positive +84%
- Grade 7.5 $300 last sale 1-27-20 returned positive +7.5%
- Grade 5.5 $210 last sale 9-14-19 returned positive +60%
- Grade 3.5 $69 last sale 1-6-20 returned positive +24%
The long-term results look promising, right? Nope. I merely cast one of Clea’s mathematical illusions. I cherry-picked the numbers and there are actually as many negative as positive returns, essentially this book is all over the map. Can the short-term returns divine a path to riches? By the “Eye of Agamotto,” we shall find out.
- Grade 9.0 $750 last sale 12-23-18 returned positive +30%
- Grade 7.5 $300 last sale 1-27-20 returned negative -16%
- Grade 6.0 $199 last sale 9-4-19 returned positive +86%
- Grade 4.5 $135 last sale 11-9-19 returned positive +175%
- Grade 3.5 $69 last sale 1-6-20 returned negative -40%
The Eye of Agomotto reveals all: these short-term returns are stronger than the long-term trends by far. When mid-range 6.0 can garner a healthy positive +86% at the $200 price point. Further, the majority of the sales trends are positive; then this is a book for any self-respecting collector of Doctor Strange to own. With these short-term returns, Strange Tales #126 is definitely a solid speculation or investment book to own. The long-term trends are okay and the short-term is, well, magical.
The CGC Census has 596 total outstanding books in inventory for Strange Tales #126. This leaves a huge runway for a trend increase in this book. Another good omen and one that portends great things for the future returns of this particular book is the potential catalyst of a movie appearance. Recently, media gossip has Clea possibly appearing in Doctor Strange Multiverse of Madness. If that is the case; it should be a big event for Doctor Strange. After all, this guy lives the life why not add another love interest?
In addition to Clea’s first appearance, this is also the first appearance of the Dread Dormammu. Prophezising the future is never easy but let’s lay out the facts like Tarot cards. First, you have a two-for-one key from the Silver Age. Additionally, this book has a catalyst with Clea said to appear in the next movie. Add to that this book is from the Silver Age and has outstanding short-term sales indicating increasing interest. My advice is to buy and hold Strange Tales #126 until the movie or beyond. After all, these Silver Age books are getting harder and harder to find, one day, poof up in smoke. Unless you are Dr. Strange “the most interesting man in the world…”
