Did you invest in Knull's early appearances in 2018? Now that he's getting set to take on Marvel's superstars, the market for Knull key issues is booming.

Why the Speculation on Knull?

Normally, a market boom is brought on by a movie or television announcement. Not in this case.

While many fans have theorized how Knull could be incorporated into Sony's Venom-verse, there's nothing substantiated to say he's coming to live-action. No, the current God of the Symbiotes boom is being generated by his overall position in the Marvel Universe.

Knull and DC's The Batman Who Laughs are on equal footing in this respect. Both characters were hugely popular from their first panels, and the editorial teams responded accordingly. DC has milked the Batman Who Laughs for everything he's worth, and fans buy up those appearances. Knull has gradually spread his symbiote-dragon wings and has emerged as much more than a Venom rouge's gallery villain.

In Venom #25, Eddie Brock warns the Avengers about Knull, teasing an epic showdown between Earth's Mightiest Heroes and the God of the Symbiotes. Of course, we knew this day would come ever since Knull appeared in Silver Surfer Black. If he's powerful enough to behead a Celestial with All-Black the Necrosword, there's no question that he's being primed for an intergalactic face-off with Marvel's A-list heroes.

Upgrading Knull's position to a Thanos-level threat has stirred the speculative pot. Here's the latest on the three of the biggest Knull keys.

THOR: GOD OF THUNDER #6

Technically, this issue marks the first appearance of what would later be named Knull. We see him only in a cameo, and no one thought much about it for five years later when Donny Cates gave the character a name and a personality.

Since then, this has been an extremely hot issue, and it's only getting hotter. Two years ago, a 9.8 had a fair market value of $178. In 2019, that FMV increased to $201. Over the past 90 days, it has reached $240.

VENOM #3

Knull's first full appearance has reached new heights. For much of this year, the standard cover of Venom #3 at a 9.8 has been a $100-$115 comic. On May 5, it surged to $200. Since then, it has steadily traded hands for $150 or more. Recently, one sold for $215 on June 14. A year ago, it averaged $96, and it will likely double that in a few months.

There were several variants, but the most important of those was the third printing since that is considered his first cover appearance. After the 9.8 averaged $62 in 2018 and $91 last year, it has soared to a $281 90-day FMV. It routinely sells for over $300 and set a record high of $375 on April 28. It hasn't sold for less than $275 since the middle of May.

VENOM #5 (SKAN VARIANT)

The standard cover for Venom #5 is only a $30 comic, but if you picked up the Skan Srisuwan variants, you are reaping the rewards.

The trade dress Skan variant had averaged a respectable $51 in 2019, and the "virgin" cover carried a $79 FMV. Both editions have exploded in the past month. The 9.8 trade dress cover had never sold for more than $100 in two years, but that was obliterated last month when two sales netted $190 and $231, respectively. Likewise, the virgin edition has been steaming along. From January to mid-April, this variant at a 9.8 didn't sell for over $68. Since April 25, it has sold for $350 three times, and it has a 90-day FMV of $200.
