Clea has arrived, and there’s more to the MCU’s newest master of the mystic arts than her first appearance. Join us as we take a closer look at the investment potential of her other key issues.

News spreads quickly in the collecting world, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness spawned the latest collecting frenzy. The mid-credits scene saw Charlize Theron grace the screen as Clea, and she could be the future Sorceress Supreme.

Who is she? Debuting in 1964’s Strange Tales #126, Clea hails from the Dark Dimension and was a captive of her uncle, Dormammu. Her parents, Orini and Umar, ruled the dimension as Dormammu followers.

After Doctor Strange helped free Clea from her deranged family, she later became his student before they fell in love. Eventually, the two married and divorced (because comic publishers like their heroes single). At one point, Clea ruled the Dark Dimension, and she is currently the Sorceress Supreme.

While your first instinct may be to go after a copy of ST #126, there are plenty more Clea keys available. Take a look.

DOCTOR STRANGE #175

The market continues to shift toward those key cover appearances, and that will make Doctor Strange #175 one of your Clea targets.

The would-be Sorceress Supreme may have debuted in 1964, but she wouldn’t make her cover premiere until this 1968 issue.

Along with that important fact, this comic also features the first appearances of the Sons of Satannish.

There are only 206 books registered on the CGC census. 21 of those are 9.6s, the highest grade registered.

STRANGE TALES #146

When Clea first appeared in Strange Tales #126, she was simply known as the mysterious captive.

Twenty issues later, the Marvel editorial staff decided to expand the role, thus christening her as Clea.

While this issue won’t compete with the likes of ST #126 or Doctor Strange #175, it provides an alternative for Clea fans on a tight budget.

The majority of the 183 books in the CGC census are mid-grade and sales are few and far between. Currently, a CGC 8.5 has an FMV of $525.

EARTH X #4

The world of Earth-9997 is one of Marvel’s more overlooked alternate reality tales. Beautifully illustrated by Alex Ross, Earth X is Marvel’s dystopian world, which began as a concept published in the beloved Wizard magazine.

There was so much fan interest that Marvel commissioned Ross to bring the idea to life in a limited series.

The premise is that Black Bolt and the Inhumans released their Terrigen Mist on the Earth, thus causing a domino effect of superpowers.

The title revealed alternate versions of Marvel’s most famous superheroes, though Earth X #4 gave the publisher its first Sorceress Supreme, Clea.

STRANGE #1

Although Earth X #4 was the first time Clea held the title of Sorceress Supreme, she didn’t canonically become Earth’s mightiest magician until this past February in Death of Doctor Strange #5. After Strange handed the role to his ex-wife, she would star in her first series beginning with Strange #1.

If the comics are any indicator, this could be the direction Marvel Studios is taking, which would make Strange #1 a worthwhile addition to your collections.

CLEA’S ROLE IN THE MCU

With the distinct possibility that Clea will assume a larger role in the MCU, her key issues have dollar signs all over them. Will she become the Sorceress Supreme?

Considering Marvel left Wong with the title after Strange returned from Thanos’ snap, she could succeed the MCU’s Sorcerer Supreme without Strange needing to die. That could allow the pair to have many adventures in the MCU.
