Even though she hasn't even appeared yet in her own Disney+ series, Kamala Khan's Ms. Marvel is already a certifiable star. She's already appeared in numerous animated films (you can catch them on Disney+) and the value of her key issues has soared in recent years.

Due to the huge number of variant covers that Marvel has released in recent years, Ms. Marvel's most valuable early appearance isn't that easy to figure out. She has several cameo appearances along with different variants of those issues. Interestingly, the variants of her first two cameo appearances are much more valuable than her first full appearance.

Let's take a look.

Captain Marvel #14 Variant Edition (Sept. 2013)

This is Kamala's very first appearance before she became Ms. Marvel. In this issue, we see Kamala on ONE panel watching Captain Marvel fighting a villain on a city street. She's also not named in the comic, so it's not entirely clear to me how we know the woman on the left side of the second panel of pg. 5 is indeed Kamala Khan (if someone knows the answer to that question, please respond in the comments below).

Raw, high-grade copies of Captain Marvel #14 sell for around $250 on eBay. To me, this seems like a lot for an unnamed, single panel appearance. According to GoCollect, the FMV of a CGC 9.8 copy of the variant seen as a part of this blog costs a whopping $3,700. Its rarity has driven up its price; according to the CGC Census, CGC has graded only 49 copies of this issue.

Captain Marvel #17 2nd Print Variant Cover Art (Jan. 2014)

Kamala Khan makes another very brief appearance on one pg. 30 of Captain Marvel #17. It's definitely a cameo appearance because you only see her from behind and don't see her face.

Even though this issue isn't even her first cameo appearance and it's a second printing, the market highly values this variant. According to GoCollect, the FMV of a CGC 9.8 copy of the variant seen here is a whopping $2,350. Although not nearly as rare as the CM #14 variant, this issue is somewhat hard to find; according to the CGC Census, CGC has graded only 438 copies of this issue. Sellers on eBay have sold 20 CGC 9.8 copies of this book during the past year; those copies increased by 54% during that period of time.

ALL-NEW MARVEL NOW! POINT ONE #1 (March 2014)

Just a few months later, Kamala Khan would finally make her first full appearance as Ms. Marvel in All New Marvel Now! Point One #1.

This is an unusual situation where the first full appearance is worth less than the cameo appearances. According to GoCollect, the FMV of a CGC 9.8 copy is approximately $750. Rarity at least partially explains the price differential. This issue is the easiest to find among the comics discussed in this article; according to the CGC Census, CGC has graded 1,160 copies of this issue.

Interestingly, the value of this book has actually decreased over the past year. Specifically, in most high grades (i.e., 9.0 through 9.6), the value of this book has dropped as much as 24%. It's difficult to explain why this occurred; perhaps a collector unloaded a huge number of excess copies of these at below market price? On the other hand, it could also be a good time to buy the dip?
