The loss of Daredevil on Netflix was stupifying to the fanbase in October 2018. We were left scratching our collective noggins, “Why cancel that show, Netflix?” Fans felt they had been hit with a cheap-shot from DD’s baton in a cool (Frank Miller inspired) ricochet move. During the last TV season, they were building up to a Daredevil vs. Bullseye matchup. In the comics, it was an extraordinary series of fights over the run: heroes died, blood was shed, and justice was eventually served.

Now with the advent of Disney+ and all the streaming that is available, it is only a matter of time before Daredevil returns. In fact, as I am writing this, news of Daredevil and Luke Cage possibly reappearing in a Marvel series has hit the media machine. If Bullseye appears in a new Daredevil TV series (orchestrated by Fiege at Marvel); then you can bet the first appearance will ricochet up the charts, like a pinball hitting bonus points off the bumper. How do speculators make money off this matchup? What book should you pick up? This most deadly assassin has his origin story and the first appearance in Daredevil #131 buy now, while it is still cheap. Can the man that never misses hit speculative high-profit margins?

Daredevil #131

This is the first appearance of Bullseye. It is cheap to pick up. You can either grab a raw copy and send it to the grading company of your choice, or buy a 9.8 graded copy online. Careful now, as these grading companies are not all created equal, "... choose wisely, my son."

Daredevil #131 was published in 1976 and was written by Marv Wolfman with Rich Buckler (art). This comic chronicles one of Daredevil's most implacable villains: Bullseye. This book has been a good bet from the beginning. Only five or so years ago it was dirt cheap and completely overlooked. Now, it took a beating in the short-term from show cancelation. But today still has strong numbers over the long-term.  Recently, rumors have been circulating that Disney may restart the show. If that is the case; then expect this book to fly faster than the Ace of Spades thrown at your Adam's apple by “The Man Who Never Misses!”

Long-Term

  • Grade 9.8 $2100 FMV returns positive +38%
  • Grade 9.2 $240 FMV returns positive +2.5%
  • Grade 8.0 $130 FMV returns negative -6.3%
  • Grade 6.0 $110 FMV returns positive +30%
  • Grade 4.5 $44 FMV returns positive +45.4%

There are other targets to focus on in the Daredevil series. Miller’s work was extraordinary on Daredevil in the 80s and a run worth owning. If you haven't read it, you should. Frank Miller's run started with his complete control of the comic’s writing in issue #165 and it ends with #191. Some notable keys for this era of Daredevil:

  • Daredevil #168 (The first appearance of Elektra. In my humble opinion everyone should own a copy of this key.)
  • Daredevil #132 (The second appearance of Bullseye.)
  • Daredevil #181 (The romantic story of Elektra’s death at the hands of Bullseye.)

Any one of these would make a nice stocking stuffer for the holidays. This entire run of Daredevil is still very cheap and available; kind of like most of the Bronze Age was 8 years ago, "food for thought." Daredevil and Bullseye are like salt and pepper, you need them both for a good creative stew. Don't miss out on Bullseye's first appearance; this guy always hits his mark.
