The Joke is not as Bad as the Punchline

The Joker is a sarcastic sociopath, a sycophant of silliness, a cold-blooded master of mayhem. But his new right-hand woman, Punchline, is one seriously disturbed mistress of crime. She is sexy smart like Harley Quinn and that is where the similarities end. Punchline is all about the sadism. Her penchant for violence probably would have never appeared in comics in the old days. But now comics are more akin to graphic novels, stress on the term "graphic" here.

Punchline's first appearance was a cameo in Batman #89. But as everyone knows the first full appearance is the big key to own. Punchline's first full appearance was in Year of the Villain: Hell Arisen #3. Can we make a speculative killing with this book, minus the sadism? Let's check into this sadistic villain before Batman makes another deposit to Arkham Asylum with Joker's latest squeeze.

Year of the Villain: Hell Arisen #3

This crazy cutie was created in DC Comics on February 26, 2020, by James Tynion, and the artist Steve Epting. Epting also did the fantastic cover, nice job. Year of the Villain: Hell Arisen #3 is the first full appearance of this sexy and sadistic Punchline. She is good with knives and chemical engineering, a painful combination to be sure.

According to Fandom Wiki Punchline has a very specific job she is the..." supervillain introduced in DC Rebirth. Created as the henchwoman to the Joker following his falling out with Harley Quinn, she serves as his underboss and partner in crime to the Clown Prince of Crime. Unlike Harley Quinn, Punchline is a very cold and sadistic character" (Source: Fandom Wiki).

Personally, I am still a big Harley Quinn fan. But times change, and obviously, the Joker has a thing for brunets as well as blonds.

This book has already had over 200 sales per GoCollect.com. That is solid interest for a new book and the amount of CGC Census means we aren't slowing down the collectibility of the recent comics. Think of this value that would have been lost if the comic publishers just went digital and no longer printed. Oh sure, the other comic book ages would be fine. But folks enjoying the new comics would not have a chance to build modern-day key characters as part of their collection/investment. Putting aside the argument for or against the recent comics being collectible (I think they are). By having these comics still printed it broadens the tent and brings more people into collecting comics, and that is always a good thing!

The short-term returns over the last few months have been good. This might not be another Incredible Hulk #181 but it darn sure isn't X-Men #1 from the 90s, either. Buy and hold at least one copy for your collection and another for your investment.

Conclusion

Punchline is going to appear in the movies someday, she is too delectable and dicey not to use in a DC Comics movie. In fact, that might have been the reason she was created to give an alternative to just seeing Harley on the big screen over and over again. What's wrong with that? Who knows? But I figure a small bet on the vile Punchline in Year of the Villain: Hell Arisen #3 is worth the risk. After all, doesn't the punchline always bring the house down?
