Were you a Beavis and Butt-Head fan back in the 1990s? If you collected their comics, you could be in for some profits.

I paid no attention to Beavis and Butt-Head comics in their heyday. I was a ‘90s kid, so I watched the show, but the comics did not get my attention. Looking at values for a couple of their key issues, I wish I had. Granted, they are not earning major, eye-popping figures, but they are definitely on the way up.

What could be driving these values? Last year, word spread that Comedy Central was looking to reboot the series, though there has been no news this year. If the reboot does make it to the airwaves, then that could boost these prices even more. Especially if the new show is a hit. Here’s more.

BEAVIS AND BUTT-HEAD #1

The first issue in the critically acclaimed (well, maybe not “critically acclaimed,” but fans of the cartoon appreciated it) series is often overlooked. The thing is, if you have a high grade of their debut comic, it has been turning a decent profit in the past year.

The near-mint-plus 9.8 has been averaging over $100 since 2020. Over the course of 46 sales, it even earned a record-high $175 twice. The first was on July 8 followed by another on July 19. For the remainder of the year, it consistently brought close to $150 or more. This gave it plenty of momentum heading into 2021.

So far this year, it has already sold 15 times with a high of $125 in the most recent sale on February 24. Prior to that, no 9.8 had earned more than $115 in 2021, but for this issue to regularly earn over $100 is worth noting.

If you just want a Beavis and Butt-Head #1 for your collection, prices drop significantly as soon as the grade dips below 9.8. In fact, the 9.6 - which, to the naked eye, is nearly identical to the near-mint-plus - averages just $45, and that is an improvement from a year prior (a $3 improvement, but an improvement nonetheless). The moral of the story is you need a 9.8 if you want to turn a real profit.

BEAVIS AND BUTT-HEAD #2

Outside the first issue, there are not too many Beavis and Butt-Head issues that are worth your speculation dollars. Behind the first and final comics of the run, the second issue brings the most money. Of course, that is not to say it is a huge number. For the past two years, there have been just two sales, and both earned $60 - one in 2020 and another in 2021. Before that, one sold for $49 in 2017, so it is making slight gains.

BEAVIS AND BUTT-HEAD #28

The CGC census has just ten graded copies on record, and that is due to the final issue of the series having such a low print run. In the eyes of collectors, that only makes it more collectible.

Thanks to the rarity, this issue graded at a near-mint-plus brings a decent price tag. Few copies trade hands each year, and only one has sold in 2021, which happened to be on February 19. The surprising part is that it brought a record-high $169. That was the first copy to sell in three years, and the last time, one earned $150 in 2017.

FINAL THOUGHTS

If the raunchy duo of Beavis and Butt-Head suddenly become popular again and are embraced by a new generation of viewers, then these issues could truly take off. Dust off those long boxes, and see if you have these stashed away.
