There’s been ample commotion for ROM: Spaceknight’s early appearances. What issues are you looking for? You came to the right place.

Ever since Marvel Comics announced a ROM omnibus, collectors and investors have been dreaming of Spaceknight keys. Considering that the ROM character is owned by Hasbro, it was a surprise that Marvel would publish an omnibus and facsimile ROM #1. While it may seem out of nowhere, there could be more happening behind the scenes than we realize.

Similar to The Transformers, ROM was a toy that needed a story. Parker Brothers then went to the House of Ideas, and Marvel’s writers helped flesh out the character. Over the years, ROM would make sporadic appearances in the Marvel-616 Universe. After Hasbro acquired the intellectual property, he faded out of Marvel canon, though the Spaceknight moniker hung around.

These days, ROM joins Transformers, G.I. Joe, the Go-Bots, and many other properties under the Hasbro banner. Since the Go-Bots were made MCU canon in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, that would imply ROM is connected to the MCU as well. With Marvel suddenly issuing a ROM omnibus, it could have movie or Disney Plus implications. That is enough to make speculators roll the dice on those Spaceknight keys.

ROM: SPACEKNIGHT #1

This has been the comic du jour for a couple of weeks now. With the omnibus and facsimile edition on the horizon, it’s thrust ROM back into the spotlight after years on the shelf. Again, it all comes down to that oh-so-important MCU appeal, and that is prevalent here. At the least, it could signal a new Spaceknight series or possibly a Hasbro-led movie in the works.

Regardless of the logic, buyers are rolling the dice on ROM like never before. If you don’t already have a high-grade copy, you may want to wait until the FOMO effect dies down.

POWER MAN AND IRON FIST #73

What should interest collectors is ROM’s first steps outside his own title. It just so happened to occur in this 1981 issue as he strolled onto the pages of Power Man and Iron Fist.

If he does arrive in the MCU, this will be a hot collectible, so now is the time to get your hands on a copy while the prices are low.

INCREDIBLE HULK #418

This issue rose to fame a couple years ago thanks to the Skrulls MCU popularity. The most famous on-screen shapeshifter, Talos, made his debut in this issue which also featured Rick Jones’ wedding (complete with crying Hulk on the cover).

What may have gone overlooked is ROM’s wedding cameo in human form. While that won’t make this a major ROM key, it is worth adding to your collections, especially if you are a Spaceknight fan.

MAYBE IT SHOULD BE A ROM-COM

Let’s say that Marvel decides to make a ROM movie. Given that the majority of Marvel Studios’ most recent additions have been comedies, would that make a Spaceknight movie a ROM-com? The jokes write themselves at this point. Feel free to insert your own on your way to grabbing those ROM key issues.
