If you don’t already have The Avengers #47 and #48, you’ll wish you had as persistent Avengers: Endgame rumors have values skyrocketing.

It all started last September when the word was that Marvel Studios was interested in a Captain Britain and the Black Knight feature film with Guy Ritchie directing. While nothing more has come of that since then, fans concocted new theories that could point to Dane Whitman being involved in Avengers: Endgame, which you can read about in detail in ComicBook.com’s “Recent Marvel Comics Announcement May Hint at Black Knight in Avengers: Endgame.”

Whitman is not the first to carry the Black Knight moniker, but he has been the most popular. He made his debut as Whitman in The Avengers #47 and as the Black Knight in The Avengers #48. The movie rumors have caused a massive price escalation with several grades eclipsing their former record high sales.

While both issues are key Whitman appearances, Avengers #47 has been the slightly more popular of the two, with the universal grades selling 25 times in the past 12 months and 14 times in the last 90 days. Avengers #48 is close behind with 22 universal graded sales in 2018 and eight since November.

Speaking of Avengers #47, its values have been exceptional compared to 2017. The 9.8 averaged a moderate $514 in 2017 with a single-sale-high of $550. It’s averaging $1,637 over the past 90 days, but that’s nothing compared to its numbers for January as both sales have been for over $1k, and the last was for an all-time high of $2,024.

If you’re not in the market for a thousand-dollar comic, then the 9.6 may be a better option. After earning a fair market value of $386 in 2017, last year saw it rise to $450. During the past three months, it’s averaged $517 with a record high of $600 this month, and it hasn’t sold below $450 this year.

There haven’t been any true low grades sold in the last 90 days with a graded 6.0 being the lowest. That particular grade is currently averaging a reasonable $54.

Now for the insanity.

As I previously mentioned, Avengers #48’s sales are keeping pace with its predecessor, but Avengers #48 has a truly eye-popping statistic. In 2017, the 9.4 averaged $195 and only increased to $200 in 2018. Earlier this month, one sold for an astounding $1,000. Considering that it has never crossed the $285 threshold before now, this could be an outlier, so watch the next two or three sales and see if they match that number. What’s funny is that the 9.6 is averaging just $650, which is a steal by comparison.

With Avengers #48, you get Whitman’s first appearance as the Black Knight in his first cover art, and you can get all the way to a 9.0 for less than $200. However, it may sting a bit knowing that you could have purchased that same 9.0 for about $89 just over a year ago.

Whether or not Dane Whitman will be part of Avengers: Endgame or be featured in a movie alongside Captain Britain is pure speculation. Kevin Feige has not confirmed anything concerning the Black Knight, so these elevated prices could fizzle out if both rumors turn out to be false. Then again, the gamble is half the fun of all this.
