80s-Cartoons-300x157 The 80s Cartoons are back! Thundercats STILL Roaring! One trending detail that has been a staple in the movie industry is remakes of original films. Apparently, creativity can only go so far in the movie industry. I also believe that sometimes remakes of movies can provide a safety net in terms of a film not totally “bombing” at the box office. Interestingly enough, many of the current remakes slated for movies derived from cartoons and animation from the 1980s, like Thundercats. Below are some important issues that have serious potential going forward.

Transformers-1-196x300 The 80s Cartoons are back! Thundercats STILL Roaring!Transformers #1

This is the comic to own for fans of this franchise. It is the first team appearance of the Transformers and Decepticons. Transformers #1 also contains the first appearance of Optimus Prime, Megatron, and Starscream. Live-action and animated movies have been made throughout the years since the 1980s.

The five live-action films that were directed by Michael Bay became huge box office hits during the late 2000s. Rumors are now swirling that the expansion of this universe appears to be in full motion. Fans and investors of this franchise truly believe this issue is the one to own going forward. The current Fair Market Value of a 9.8 graded copy is selling at $2,350. Prior to October 2020, this grade did not even reach $1,000 in sales. So, the climb is steady and the value should increase as the franchise continues to introduce more movies.

Thundercats-1-194x300 The 80s Cartoons are back! Thundercats STILL Roaring!Thundercats #1

This is the premiere issue to own for this animated franchise. It depicts the first-team appearance of the Thundercats. The team consists of Lion-O, Cheetara, Panthro, Tygra, Wiley Kat, and Snarf.  It is also the first team appearance of Mumm-Ra. Mumm-Ra is known as the main antagonist of the franchise and villain to the Thundercats. The animated show ran from the mid-1980s for five seasons and resulted in video games, merchandise, and multiple publications such as magazines, and an additional spin-off series.

Rumors lately have produced an increased sales of this issue. In the last week, there was a +168% increase in copies sold versus the previous week. The rumor is that there are plans of a movie being made by Warner Brothers Studios. If you are a collector, be on the lookout as this issue has a couple of variants. The variants include a Candian Price Variant, 2nd print, Newsstand, and a rare 3rd print. The Candian Price Variant is labeled with a 75 cent price tag and a  UPC/barcode. The difference in identifying the 2nd and 3rd print is the 3rd print has the price box in the shape of an M.

TMNT

turtle-196x300 The 80s Cartoons are back! Thundercats STILL Roaring!Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics have been heating up for some time now. Though, did you know there is a comic book adaptation based on the animated series? Well, the issue is none other than Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures #1. The issue is also significant in that it is the first appearance of Bebop, Rocksteady, and Krang. The characters mentioned are recurring villains that opposed the Ninja Turtles. This issue has been gaining steam lately, since the early issues of the franchise have been hitting prices that are getting unreachable. The prices for these issues are getting very difficult to obtain in high grades. The issue I have mentioned is another alternative to own and is based on the animated series.

The issue also contains the debut of the turtles in different colored masks in comic books. In addition, there are many different variants that you can obtain. There are four variants available other than the first print. The four variants are #NE Spray variant, Newsstand, Candian Price Variant, and a Newsstand Candian Price Variant. The #NE Spray variant comes in a promotional 3-pack that could be obtained by mail after sending in proof of purchase of Nespray brand milk powder. The regular Newsstand variant differs with a $1.00 cover price, while the Candian Price Variants differ with their $1.25 cover price. The Candian Price variant is distinguished by the UPC barcode on the cover. All in all, it is good to know the difference in all the variants for this issue.

I agree with your post pertaining to the 80’s shows. However, Transformers and TMNT have already been there and done that. The true potential is in Thundercats. If they produce a movie and it is a true hit, OMG!! Also, you forgot Wiley-Kit within the names of the team. Thanks. Eddie.
