Collecting trading cards has been a time-honored tradition for generations. From baseball cards to Pokemon cards, there’s a trading card for every kind of fan! Trading card games focus on the gaming aspect of certain trading cards — such as the previously mentioned Pokemon and the widely popular Magic: The Gathering. Each week we'll look at some cards that are eye-catching for all kinds of buyers!

Pokemon: Machamp CGC 9

Machamp is one of the original 150 Pokemon introduced in the games Pokemon Red and Blue. The final evolution form of Machop, Machamp is a powerful fighter Pokemon who can serve a punch! He has appeared in most of the video games, and depending which game you're playing he is a master of almost every type of martial arts. This is a great card for players, and interest in the card has gone up in recent weeks.

This CGC blue label 9 is from the 1st edition Base Set. The holograph is still shiny and bright, perfect for any collector. The current market price for ungraded examples is $49.12. Heritage has sold similar examples in the past, with most cards selling for under $200.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Legend of Blue Eyes White Dragon Group Lot of 129

As we've seen over the past few weeks, lots of raw cards can be a treasure trove for collectors and investors alike. This specific set is for the 1st edition Legend of Blue Eyes White Dragon and contains 129 ungraded cards. Heritage notes some of the more popular cards in the lot, including Karbonala Warrior, Gravedigger Ghoul, and Spirit of the Harp. The average grade for the lot is around a near mint  7 to near mint/mint 8.

This lot would be great for collectors who still play, for collectors who want to take a chance and get them graded, and even for people who are investors. I love lots like this because of how versatile they are.

Recent auctions for similar lots have sold for around $150, though prior to this year prices were lower. This could indicate an interest in Yu-Gi-Oh! cards as they are still more affordable than Pokemon. If you're looking at this lot, don't let it get away from you.

Magic The Gathering Legends Sealed Booster Pack

The fourth expansion set in the Magic: The Gathering game, Legends, gave us several big cards. The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale, Chains of Mephistopheles, and Moat, to name a few. These cards can fetch thousands of dollars ungraded in auctions. This booster pack contains 15 cards -- so that gives you a one in 15 chance of finding a card that could really be worthwhile. You could also opt to keep the pack intact.

This makes for a great collector's piece, as well as a fun gamble. Sealed booster packs -- graded or ungraded -- can go for serious money. In October 2022, Heritage sold a similar example for $960. By comparison, a booster box of Legends last sold for $52,500 in March of 2023. Booster boxes for Legends have started to increase in value, so it is possible the same will happen for individual booster packs.
