From baseball cards to Pokemon cards, there’s a trading card for every kind of fan! Trading card games focus on the gaming aspect of certain trading cards — such as the previously mentioned Pokemon and the widely popular Magic: The Gathering. Each week, we’ll look at some cards that are eye-catching for all kinds of buyers!

Sealed Pokemon Pokedex

If you were a kid in the 1990s there were a few toys that were highly coveted. Tamagotchi, Tickle Me Elmo, the TalkBoy, and the Pokemon Pokedex. This replica Pokedex has the first 150 Pokemon loaded and includes information about each of them.

While many of the early Pokemon toys are highly collectible, this toy stands out above the rest. Used examples of this toy still fetch around $60 on eBay, while sealed models go for significantly more.

Prices have been as low as $205 and as high as $264 over the past 4 months, so be prepared to spend at least $210 on this example — pretty impressive for a toy that was $20 brand new! Heritage notes that this item is in Excellent condition. If you’re a Pokemon collector don’t sleep on this toy, as prices will likely climb for this item.

Pokemon Unlimited Base Set Sealed Booster Pack PSA Gem Mint 10

If you’re watching the Pokemon cards during this week’s auction, this is probably the item to keep an eye on. Sealed booster packs almost always command top dollar, especially this pack of  Pokemon Unlimited Base Set cards. Early Pokemon booster packs are highly collectible, especially if the pack features a popular Pokemon — in this case, Charizard. I’ve often mentioned that while you can open the packs to see what you get, it’s also worth keeping them sealed, and if you’re really motivated, getting them graded.

This PSA Gem Mint 10 is perfect. Seldom do any collectibles get a perfect 10 from a third-party grader, but this pack has it. This item will likely go for a few thousand. In May 2023, a similar example sold on Heritage for $1,062. By comparison, a sealed First Edition booster pack with a grade of PSA 10 sold for $8,400 in March 2021. This is a worthwhile buy for collectors and investors alike, though you will be sitting on it for a while.

Magic The Gathering In the Eye of Chaos CGC Universal 9

Out of all the Magic: The Gathering cards I’ve seen, this one is rather striking. In the Eye of Chaos was a part of the third expansion for Magic, Legends. Brian Snoddy’s artwork sings on this card. There’s something attractive about the purple hues against the blue card! This card has been offered before and has traditionally fallen into the perfect price point for collectors.

This CGC blue label 9 is a beautiful example. Currently, only 5 are graded higher, making this a desirable grade. In August 2022 a similar example sold for $159. By comparison, a CGC blue label 9.5 sold for $194 in March 2023, so there isn’t much of a price difference between the grades. If you’re a collector this is a great price point for a high-grade card.
