Collecting trading cards has been a time-honored tradition for generations. From baseball cards to Pokemon cards, there’s a trading card for every kind of fan! Trading card games focus on the gaming aspect of certain trading cards — such as the previously mentioned Pokemon, as well as the widely popular Magic: The Gathering.

Magic: The Gathering - Force of Will

Here's something we don't see every week! This Magic: The Gathering Force of Will card from the Alliance Set is as powerful as it is eye-catching. This powerful card is categorized as Uncommon and can command a hefty price tag. This blue label CGC Gem Mint 9.5 has 40 other Force of Will cards graded at this grade, while there are only 3 graded higher. Ungraded cards have a median asking price of $95.

Interest in this card did dip for some time from December 2022 through January 2023. Prices have attempted to remain stable for ungraded cards at this point. But as we all know graded cards tend to sell for more. In December 2022 Heritage sold a similar card with a similar grade for $180. This card does have investment potential, but this is better suited for collectors.

Pokemon - Charizard

By now we all know how powerful and expensive Charizard is from the Pokemon Unlimited set from 1999. This rare holographic card was a key card for players back then, and its value has only skyrocketed since. Ungraded cards have a market price of $997.83, but graded cards can fetch thousands of dollars depending on the grade. In March 2022, Heritage sold a PSA Gem Mint 10 first edition Charizard card for $336,000.000. Lower grades, while still netting in the thousands, can be more reasonably priced by comparison.

On top of that, if the card is anything beyond a first edition, you could get a Charizard card for a fraction of the cost of that PSA 10 card. For example, a third-release edition Charizard card with a blue label CGC grade of 8.5 sold for $504 in March 2023.

This PSA NM/Mint 8 is a third-release edition, so you could very well get it for under $1000. If you're looking at this card as an investment piece, you could be sitting on it for a while. If you want an affordable option for your collection, this card is perfect.

Pokemon - Chinese 2-Player Starter Set

This is definitely something we don't see often in these auctions -- a Chinese edition starter set for two players! This sealed box contains 60 cards, including a first-edition Machamp. Machamp was included in these starter sets but was not a part of any other booster packs or decks. This is a cool but potentially overlooked Pokemon collectible. This box is sealed and does have some noticeable yet slight damage to the box, including blunted corners. Overall Heritage notes this box as being in Very Good condition.

Heritage did sell a similar box in August 2021 for $156. Chinese edition booster boxes and cards have commanded serious money. A first-edition base set PSA 9 Charizard card sold for $3,960 in March of 2022. That same month, a sealed first-edition base set booster box sold for $22,800. If you're looking for another way to collect Pokemon cards, the Chinese edition cards may just be worth your while.
