Collecting trading cards has been a time-honored tradition for generations. From baseball cards to Pokemon cards, there's a trading card for every kind of fan! Trading card games focus on the gaming aspect of certain trading cards -- such as the previously mentioned Pokemon, as well as the widely popular Magic: The Gathering.

Each week, Heritage holds a TCG Select auction, featuring some fine examples from the TCG world. These cards can be raw, graded, or sometimes still sealed in their original packaging. If you're a TCG collector, these weekly auctions should not be overlooked!

Magic: The Gathering The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale

Rare Magic: The Gathering cards are a true sight to behold. The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale was a part of the third expansion set and has recently seen a market increase in price this past month alone. This CGC-graded 8.5 NM/Mint+ example is a beautiful example of such a hard-to-find card.

Only 10 cards have the same grade, and only 5 cards have been graded higher. In June 2022, a CGC graded 9 sold for $5,040 on Heritage.

Rocket's Snorlax

Team Rocket, the villainous team from the Pokemon franchise, has a number of Pokemon up their sleeve. While most people may associate Meowth with Team Rocket, the group also has my personal favorite Pokemon in the queue -- Snorlax! This ultra-rare holofoil card is a beautiful example, with an overall CGC grade of 9.5 Gem Mint.

This Snorlax is from the EX Team Rocket Returns expansion, so not to be confused with the first Rocket-specific expansion. Interest in this card is overall low, with a median price of $221. But, if you're a Pokemon collector or are willing to sit on an investment, this may be a great bargain.

Pokemon First Edition Fossil Set Booster Box

Here's something you don't see every day! This factory-sealed booster box is for the third set from the Pokemon TCG. This Fossil box contains 36 booster packs, totaling 396 cards. Some of the rare cards from the series include Moltres, Zapdos, Dragonite, and Gengar, which can fetch thousands of dollars on their own. The last time Heritage sold a Fossil booster box was October 2022 for $19,200. If you're looking for a high-stakes bet, this could be it!

Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back

The Empire Strikes Back is one of the most well-known sequels in cinema history, and is celebrated as being one of the best. Star Wars itself has been a merchandising machine since the first movie, with all kinds of cool items to celebrate a galaxy far, far away. Trading cards are easy to produce, and some of the most inexpensive things collectors can buy.

This Topps Series 2 wax box includes 36 sealed booster packs, and Heritage notes it as being in overall Very Good condition. This could be your chance to relive your childhood or to just own a unique vintage Star Wars item.

Heritage also has a Series 3 box up for auction -- both feature bright backgrounds with a sinister Darth Vader on them.
