Suicide Keys: Harley Quinn, Bloodsport, and PeacemakerAs the audience prepares for the premiere of The Suicide Squad, it’s time to check the ticker for the rising stock of these three keys. Bloodsport, anyone?

DON’T GET ATTACHED

With The Suicide Squad approaching Deadpool comedy territory, this movie seems like a sure-fire hit for the DCEU. There are so many characters debuting in this film that featuring all their first appearances is just too much. Today’s focus is on the three characters that will likely share the spotlight. They also are the three who have the best chance of surviving what is said to be a bloody film that will see many deaths. As the posters advertise, don’t get attached, at least not to anyone but the following characters.

Suicide Keys: Harley Quinn, Bloodsport, and Peacemaker

HARLEY QUINN

FIRST APPEARANCE: THE BATMAN ADVENTURES #12

There was much to hate about the first Suicide Squad film, but Margot Robbie turned in a beloved performance. Both Harley fans new and old lauded Robbie’s take on the character, and it elevated Harley Quinn’s stature both in the DCEU and in the comics. Although her Birds of Prey spinoff film was lackluster at the box office, The Suicide Squad should remedy that black eye. It will, in turn, cause prices for her already-expensive first appearance to rise even more.

It’s no surprise that The Batman Adventures #12 has been setting new record highs this year. She has never been so popular, and the character is in the perfect hands with James Gunn. It is likely that she will once again be a scene-stealer in the film, and that will only boost prices that much more. Already this year, a 9.8 sold for $4,551, breaking last year’s record by more than $2k. Even the lower grades are drawing impressive figures. It speaks volumes when a 2.5 is selling for $326.

BLOODSPORT

FIRST APPEARANCE: SUPERMAN #4 (1987)

No one cared who Bloodsport was until he put on the mask.

In this case, Bloodsport’s new helmet is inspired by a Xenomorph skull straight from Alien, and that only makes him seem all the more intimidating. And no one plays intimidating quite like actor Idris Elba.

Whether or not Bloodsport will survive the events of The Suidice Squad remains to be seen, but fans have known for months now that he would be a star of the film. Casting an actor of Elba’s caliber in the role certainly calls for Bloodsport to be elevated to A-list villain.

Before last year, this was barely enough for collectors to label it as a minor key. As recently as 2019, you could have purchased a 9.8 for $56 on average. That year, one copy sold for as low as $38 while the year’s high was just $67. Then, the news broke that Bloodsport would be part of Gunn’s Suicide Squad revision, and the FMV jumped to $123. Now as the hype reaches its peak, prices are reaching all-time highs. That once-$56 9.8 has climbed to a 90-day FMV of $210, and one copy sold for as much as $300 this year. There’s nothing like a starring role in a feature film to break records.

PEACEMAKER

FIRST APPEARANCE: FIGHTIN’ 5 #40

A holdover from the Charlton Comics days, Peacemaker is willing to kill anyone and anything to bring everlasting peace to the world.

Judging by the teasers and trailers, John Cena’s Peacemaker could be the breakout star of the movie. Not only has Cena done a great job promoting the character, often appearing in costume for late-night talk show interviews, but Peacemaker’s best comedic lines are featured heavily in WarnerMedia’s movie advertisements. Obviously, someone within WB has seen the star quality performance; the studio has already announced a Peacemaker HBO Max series is in development.

Only days ago, a 7.0 was just one dollar shy of tying its record high of $2,000. On July 14, a month after setting a new record of $810, a 6.5 sold for a respectable $585. With all the attention being placed on Peacemaker, it would not be a shock to see that record approach the $1k mark in the near future.
