The sixth annual Stumptown Comics Fest takes place April 18 and 19th in Portland, OR at the Lloyd Center Doubletree. Focusing on independent writers and cartoonists, this highly anticipated event is growing every year, and there are a ton of other activities taking place all throughout the month of April, as it is Portland’s official Comics Month!

Here are just a couple of highlights:

  • Chris Onstad will be signing his book, Achewood Volume 1: The Great Outdoor Fight at Things From Another World April 15 at 4133 NE Sandy Blvd at 5:00 p.m. In addition to his book, Onstad will have exclusive shirts, posters, cookbooks, and pint glasses.
  • The Compound Gallery will unveil a gallery show and exclusive apparel line by Camille d’Errico April 16th from 7:00-9:00 p.m. This event is also sponsored by Dark Horse Comics and MacTarnahan’s.
  • Friday, April 17 is the joint fundraising benefit dinner for the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund and Stumptown Comics Foundation. Held at the ArtBar & Bistro of the Portland Center for the Performing Arts at 6:30 p.m., this dinner will feature such comic book luminaries as Jeff Smith, Craig Thompson, Farel Dalrymple, Matt Wagner, Brian Michael Bendis, Derek Kirk Kim, and Mike Dringenberg. Tickets are $100 per person, and evening-casual attire or finer is requested. Email sts@stumptowncomics.com to reserve your seat.
  • Prior to the dinner at 5:30 p.m., there will be an open-attendance cocktail hour in the Rotunda lobby of the Portland Center for the Performing Arts, during which Portland Mayor Sam Adams will read a proclamation declaring Portland the City of Comics for the month of April 2009.
