Everything Silver Surfer is coming up golden. Prices for his keys are getting loftier by the month, and we’re not talking about his major appearances, either.

Any good collector knows the fatal four Silver Surfer keys: Fantastic Four #48, F.F. #49, Silver Surfer #1, and S.S. #4. It goes without saying (but I’ll say it anyway just for fun) that those four command the highest prices. However, the Surfer has been so popular in 2019 that even his minor keys are feeling the heat.

FANTASTIC FOUR #50

Out of everything on today's list, this is the most expensive. The third in the “Galactus Trilogy,” it was the third appearance of the “Sentinel of the Spaceways.” It doesn’t matter the grade; this issue is getting expensive. To put the price jump in perspective, consider this: two years ago, $75 could have gotten you between a graded 4.0-4.5. This year, that $75 will only get you an incomplete 0.5. If you want a 4.0, you will have to part with about $200.

FANTASTIC FOUR #55

F.F. #55 marks the fourth overall appearance of the Silver Surfer and his third cover appearance. What makes this issue special, however, is it pitted him against the F.F.’s powerhouse, Thing. Remember that back in the 1960s, Thing was extremely popular, so having him go toe-to-toe with an exciting, new character was bound to sell comics. This has always been a popular issue among Surfer fans, but it’s ascended past that niche audience. Granted it’s still relatively cheap compared to the likes of F.F. #48 and S.S. #1, but F.F. #55’s value is getting steeper. Earlier this month, a graded 5.5 sold for $96 when it was a $50 comic two years ago. On the plus side, if you are willing to sacrifice quality for your budget, a 2.0 sold for just $26 earlier this month.

FANTASTIC FOUR ANNUAL #5

It’s fitting that Silver Surfer’s first solo story was included in an issue of Fantastic Four. Before he debuted in his own title, the Surfer starred in his first solo adventure in a backup tale included in F.F. Annual #5. If you don’t have the budget for the “holy grails” of Surfer keys, but you want a piece of his history, this is a great issue to have. What’s even better is that it’s the cheaper option. For $100 or less, you can get as high as a graded 7.0.

SILVER SURFER #14

This issue will take off if the Surfer ever comes face-to-face with Spider-Man in the MCU. Of course, all things Spidey has a question mark at the moment with the new Sony/Disney deal in place for his live-action movies. Still, we know that Silver Surfer will eventually come to the MCU, and there’s a high probability that he’ll run into Spider-Man. That being said, now is a good time to add this comic to your collection. Like F.F. Annual #5, $100 can go a long way as Ben Franklin can net you anything up to a 7.0.
