Baseball card collecting has been a tradition for more than a century. Kids have always collected, but nowadays, more adults who had cards as kids are now interested in recreating their collections. Here is a good place for people like that to get started.

1989 Upper Deck Ken Griffey Jr. - Estimated Cost $200

For a generation of collectors, this was the holy grail. And while Griffey Jr. fell short of becoming the greatest player of all time, he still came awfully close. So the popularity of this card is driven both by the success of Griffey Jr.'s career and the pure shot of nostalgia.

Since the Upper Deck set came out during the card boom, there are tons of copies of this card out there. Still, they sell briskly and represent a pretty strong option for collectors. A simple PSA 9 copy of the card will sell for around $200. A PSA 10 will go for slightly over $1,000.

Mike Trout 2012 Topps Heritage PSA 9 - Estimated Cost $100

Mike Trout burst onto the scene in 2011, and at the end of 2012, people were calling him the next Mickey Mantle. And the Angels superstar has mostly lived up to that prediction. Despite some injury-ridden seasons and a general lack of success by the Anaheim baseball team, Trout is a 10-time All-Star who has won 3 AL MVPs.

There are several Trout rookie cards, with the 2011 Topps Update being the most popular. But the Topps Heritage card from 2012 is a nice value card to invest in. Collectors can get the good-looking early Trout card for around $100 in a PSA 9.

2018 Bowman Chrome Shohei Ohtani Batting PSA 9 - Estimated Cost $200

There was once a two-way hitting and pitching star named Babe Ruth. That was more than 100 years ago, though, and at some point, Ruth stopped pitching. Many fans never thought they'd see a day when a two-way player was as dominant as Shohei Ohtani is.

Cards of the superstar Angel are an especially good investment as plenty of Japanese fans will want to get their hands on them as well. The pitcher and outfielders Bowman Chrome rookie is a great-looking card that features Ohtani at the plate and goes for around $200 in a PSA 9.

1993 Stadium Club Murphy Derek Jeter PSA 9 - Estimated Cost $150

Derek Jeter was one of those rare players that played his entire career for one team. And during his 20 seasons with the Yankees, the shortstop made 14 All-Star games, won 5 World Series and notched 3,465 hits. And he did it all in a calm and cool manner, making him one of the most popular players in the game.

Jeter's cards are highly collectible and likely to increase in value over the years. His 1993 SP rookie is a bit pricey, but his Stadium Club Murphy issue can fit in most budgets. A PSA 9 copy of the card will sell for $160.

1982 Topps Traded Cal Ripken Jr. - Estimated Cost $350

While he has been retired since 2001, the legend of Cal Ripken Jr. still looms large in baseball lore. Baseball's Iron Man was elected to the Hall of Fame in 2007. His stature is to such a point that Little League for many 11-12 year-old's is now known as Cal Ripken League.

There are a few different rookie cards for the former Orioles shortstop, but the most popular one is the 1982 Topps Traded issue. Copies of the card in a PSA 9 normally sell for around $350.
